• From Eggs to Fledglings

Eggs are laid over a two week period

• This pair of Bluebirds laid four eggs. We started
  taking pictures as soon as the eggs started to
  hatch. You can see the small hole where this
  arrow is pointing. The date of this picture is
  July 31, 2006

First Chicks

• By the time the photographer return two of the
  chicks had hatched. They are completely helpless
  at this stage and will be until they can fly.
• This picture was taken Aug. 1, 2006.

Three Chicks and One Egg

• By Aug. 2, 2006 three chicks have hatched and the
  fourth egg has a small hole started.

There are four chicks in the nest but one is
under the other three and it will not make it.

• The chicks grow rapidly on the soft insects,
  spiders, and grubs that the parents feed them.
  Feathers are beginning to appear.

The Chicks grow very quickly. The picture on the
left was taken 8/11/06 and the one on the right
8/13/06.

This picture was taken Aug. 16, 2006. When the
photographer came back two days later the chicks
were gone.

  territory. When the female arrive, he will show
  her the available sites and she will choose the
  one she wants.
