Physical features

• Baby penguins hatch from eggs. King penguins
  dont build nests. They carry their eggs around
  on their feet. After the eggs hatch, the mothers
  and fathers take turns carrying the baby around
  on their feet.

• When it gets cold, both eggs and chicks can be
  covered with a flap of skin that makes it warm.
  The penguin eggs are soft, then harden. The eggs
  turn from a pale to greenish color. By April the
  chicks are almost fully grown.

• The male penguins loses weight by fasting over
  the winter months. They gain it again during the
  spring time through September. Because of their
  large size, king penguin chicks take 14-16 months
  before they are ready to go to sea.

• The king penguin feeds its chicks by eating fish,
  digesting it slightly and regurgitating the food
  into the chicks mouth. A chick is born without
  the oily outer layer and therefore cannot fish
  until it is an adult.

Cold weather adaptations

• Some penguins live on islands inside the
  Antarctic circle during the summer. But they
  migrate to warmer places to spend the winter. To
  keep warm, they have four layers of feathers.

Food

• The body of a penguin is made for swimming in the
  ocean and catching food under water. The penguin
  eats mainly lantern fish. It also eats small
  squid. Sea lions eat the penguins.

• The muscles that move the wings on the king
  penguin are very strong. They are the largest
  muscles in a penguins body. Penguins also seem
  to like people or at least not mind people. The
  king penguin is the second largest penguin.

• Penguins have adapted well to their extreme
  living conditions in the sub Antarctica. The
  penguins wings work like two paddles. They swing
  back and forth to drive the penguin through the
  water. Their belly is white and they have orange
  on their body and bright orange ear patches.

• King penguins cant fly. Some people believe that
  there may be more then 100 million penguins
  living today. Male and female penguins look very
  much the same. The males may be a little larger
  than females and their beaks may be a little
  bigger.

  looking at them. Penguins are very interesting!
