The Holy Spirit

The Work of the Holy Spirit as God, a person not
an influence, is emphasized throughout Scripture.
He is important to us in many areas, but perhaps
most important for us to know and believe are His
works of

I. Creation - Imparting of Life

• It is important for us to realize the work of God
  the Holy Spirit in creation in order to know and
  realize His function with God the Father and God
  the Son
• Gen 11-2 "...The Spirit of God..."
• Job 334 "...The Spirit of God has made me..."
• The word used regarding the Spirit of God
  "moving" in Gen 12 is the same used in Deut
  3211 "hovers" and speaks of that work of God
  whereby His creation is preserved and kept in
  order.

II. Regeneration - Imparting of New Life

• Titus 35 and 2 Cor 517
• The work of making a new creation that God does
  and this work is ascribed to the Holy Spirit - it
  is His ministry to indwell and make us a new
  creature personally and practically.

III. Baptism

• This work, which uses a word Baptidzo which means
  to place in and does not indicate any taking out,
  is distinguished from the word used in water
  baptism, Bapto, which indicates placing in and
  removing as used in John 1326

• 1 Cor 1213
• Concept the same as spoken in Romans 11 -
  "grafted in"

IV. Sealing

• The guarantee of our salvation - when a seal is
  placed it is the function of the person placing
  the seal to perform the guarantee, not the person
  receiving the seal - viz. Firestone, Chrysler,
  etc.
• Thus God seals us to guarantee our salvation

• Eph 430

V. Indwelling

• I John 324, 413, Gal 46, Rom 814-16, speak of
  the work done at the moment of conversion,
  whereby the Spirit of God takes up residency in
  the life of the believer.

VI. Filling

• Ephesians 518 - Not soaked like a sponge, but
  filled like a container!
