TIME MANAGEMENT

DEALING WITH COACHES
  • Pre-match expectations
  • Do not give appearance of favoritism
  • No hugging coaches even if best friends
  • Allow same amount of time with both coaches
  • Conversations about match (no scouting reports)
  • Head coach only
  • Shows up at meeting, designated for entire match
  • Only the designated head coach may stand during
    dead balls, and coach fro the replacement zone,
    request a time-out, ask for a sub, and ask for a
    clarification of a play or ruling
  • Must be seated once the 1st Referee extends the
    arm in preparation to whistle and signal for
    serve (2nd Referee can assist by reminding the
    coach to be seated)

DEALING WITH PLAYERS
  • Identify captain in pre-match meeting
  • No favoritism, conversations concerning only
    match info, no scouting reports
  • No hugging overtly friendly actions
  • If uniform/equipment issue arises, address with
    player immediately if they do not correct, yellow
    card.
  • No ball handling if court is not ready
  • Be approachable
  • When giving card, inform 2nd referee, captain,
    player and coach

DEALING WITH FANS
  • Prior to match, identify site administrator and
    where they will be during match
  • Work with host management to foster good sporting
    conduct and adherence to the Sportsmanship with
    Honor directive
  • Ensure fans are completely off the playing
    surface
  • When conduct by the fans begins to cross the
    line, host management should step in and halt the
    inappropriate conduct. There are times when fan
    conduct should not be replicated and must cease
    immediately by action of the referees and host
    management
  • The playing of music/sound effects shall only be
    permitted during prematch, time-outs, between
    games and post-game. The use of artificial
    noisemakers shall be prohibited.

DEALING WITH WORK TEAM
  • Pre-match expectations with 2nd referee
  • Home team provides table personnel (Note If home
    team scorekeeper is making numerous mistakes and
    cannot be counted on to continue, visiting team
    book can be accepted)
  • Location and placement of table personnel
  • Define with them their roles
  • Equipment at the table
  • Have them show you their duties
  • Instruct all potential lines persons have them
    demonstrate
  • Protect all bench/line personnel from
    coaches/fans/players
