Title: Understanding Jehovahs Witnesses

1
7 Habits of Highly Effective Witnessesto
Jehovahs Witnesses(or anyone else)
2
1. Ask Leading Questions
  • When JWs are in the field, they expect to be
    the teachers
  • Ask leading questions
  • If you dont know what they believe, ask

3
Examples of Questions
  • Ive heard you dont believe Jesus rose
physically from the grave. Is that right?
  • Could you explain this verse from your
    perspective?
  • I was given this book (or article) about
Jehovahs Witnesses. Could you read it and tell
    me if its accurate?

4
2. Know the Bible
  • JWs run into a lot of Christians who dont know
the Bible. Dont be one of those.
  • Read and study the Bible not only in Sunday
school, but also on your own.
  • Learn how to interpret the Bible so that you can
give an answer when someone misinterprets it.

5
3. Know Sound Doctrine
  • You cant fight something with nothing.
  • If you dont understand biblical doctrine well,
you will not be able to correct
    misunderstandings.
  • Example Many Christians have an inadequate
    understanding of resurrection, heaven, and
    eternity.

6
Going to Heaven?
  • JWs believe that only 144,000 Christians go to
Heaven, and they only started doing that in 1918.
  • Christians often respond by saying simply that
all believers go to Heaven when they die.
  • But where does the resurrection of the body fit
    into this picture?

7
  • Christians do go to Heaven when they die (Luke
2343 Phil. 121-24), but as spirits awaiting
    full salvation.
  • Christ will raise us from the dead in glorified,
immortal bodies like his (1 Cor. 1544 Phil.
    321).
  • We will live in the new heaven and new earth (2
    Pet. 313 Rev. 211).

8
4. Choose topics wisely.
  • If your opportunity is short, focus on making one
    telling point.
  • Stay away from topics on which you are
    unprepared.
  • Any subject can be a good one when handled well.
No birthdays? Turn the discussion to the subject
    of legalism.

9
5. Stay on target.
  • If you bring up a Bible passage and the JW wants
to jump to another one, agree to discuss them one
    at a time.
  • You should have as your goal to help the JW
question his religions authority and move closer
    to accepting the true gospel.
  • Focus on issues, not on personalities.

10
6. Break their stereotype.
  • JWs are used to people being rude to them at the
    door surprise them!
  • Be in the process of growing into the kind of
Christian yourself that youre telling them they
    should become.
  • Know your stuffbut if you dont know something,
be humble, admit it, and promise to study and get
    back to them.

11
7. Do your best, let God do His.
  • Dont choose between study and prayerdo both.
  • Be prepared to plant a seed, to water it, or to
    harvest it (1 Cor. 36-8).
  • Offer to pray for the JWs (pray for them whether
    they say yes or no!).
  • The Holy Spirit works through our witnessand
    after theyre gone.
