Ownership of 92-3289 has changed hands many times
since its initial delivery to Qantas Airlines of
Australia, 10 Jan, 1968. ITEL International
purchased the plane from Qantas, December 1977,
and leased it to Young Cargo, a charter cargo
company based in Belgium. GATX Corporation, a
financier of aircraft, then purchased it,
December 1980, and leased it to Air Niugini until
December 1984, when that company became its
owner. During the last half of 1985 the aircraft
changed hands four more times until Greyfin
(Nassau) Ltd. purchased and leased it to the
Egypt based Zarkani Aviation Services, June
1986. Two years later Avistar Airlines in Cyprus
purchased the aircraft and leased it to Nile
Safari Cargo, July 1988. That company returned it
to Avistar, May 1990, which continued operating
it until April 1992. The following month,
Northrop Grumman purchased it for the U.S. Air
Force for future conversion and use as an E8-C
Joint-STARS aircraft. Northrop Grumman
completed its conversion, June 1996, and 92-3289,
the first Joint STARS aircraft in the fleet, was
delivered to Robins AFB, 4 March 1996.

Australias Qantas Airlines accepted initial
delivery of this aircraft, 7 Sept, 1968 and
operated it for nine years until its sale to
Zambia Airways in South Africa, May 1977. It
remained in service in Zambia for twelve years
until being purchased by Trans Arabian Air
Transport, March 1989, a charter cargo company
based in Sudan. Trans Arabian operated the
aircraft for a short time until Northrop Grumman
purchased it for the U.S. Government, June 1992,
for conversion and use as a part of the E8-C
Joint-STARS fleet. Northrop Grumman completed
its conversion, March, 1996, and 92-3290 was
delivered to Robins AFB, 11 Dec. 1996.

Qantas Airlines of Australia accepted initial
delivery of this aircraft, 7 March, 1967. Nine
years later ITEL International purchased it from
Qantas, November 1976, and leased it to Air
Niugini until March, 1980. GATX Corporation, a
financier of aircraft, purchased it for a short
period, March June 1981, and then sold it to
the U.S. based International Air Leases Inc.,
which leased it to several companies over the
next four years. Those companies included Zaire
Cargo, September 1981 - April 1982 the U.S.
based Arrow Air, May - December 1982 and TAISA
of Costa Rica, January 1983 - December 1984.
Afterward, Chinas Shanghai Airlines purchased
and operated the aircraft, July 1985 November
1988. Comtran International then purchased and
leased it to a smaller U.K. based charter carrier
Anglo Cargo, October 1989. That company ceased
operations, January 1992, and Omega Air Ltd. of
Ireland purchased it in May of that same year.
Finally, just two days later, 17 May 1992, the
U.S. Air Force purchased the plane from Omega Air
for conversion and use as part of the E8-C
Joint-STARS fleet. Northrop Grumman completed
the conversion in November 1997, and 93-0597 was
delivered to Robins AFB, 24 Nov. 1997.

Qantas Airlines of Australia accepted initial
delivery of this aircraft, 11 Oct, 1967. It
remained in service with Qantas until it being
purchased by British Caledonian Airways, May
1975. That company later sold the aircraft,
December 1983, to Anglo Cargo, a smaller U.K.
based carrier which operated it from May 1984 to
October 1986. It then sat parked for over five
years until Anglo Cargo ceased operations,
January 1992, which allowed the Ireland based,
Omega Air Ltd. to purchase it in June of that
year. Omega Air leased the aircraft to Race Cargo
Airlines for a short period, August - October
1992, and then to Aero Brazil, December 1992 -
January 1994. The following month, February 1994,
Northrop Grumman purchased the plane for the U.S.
Air Force for future conversion and use in the
E8-C Joint-STARS fleet. Northrop Grumman
completed the conversion, June 1997, and 93-1097
was delivered to Robins AFB, 18 Aug. 1998.

Qantas Airlines of Australia accepted initial
delivery of this aircraft, 28 Jan, 1967. It
remained in service with Qantas until May 1978,
when ITEL International purchased and
immediately began leasing it to a number of air
carriers, occasionally through BMI British
Midland Airways, over the next three years. Those
companies were Kuwait Airlines, May - June 1978
Pakistani International Airlines, July 1978 -
January 1979 Air Algerie, June - October 1979
Gulf Air, November 1979 - March 1980 and finally
Linhas Aereas de Mozambique, October 1980 - April
1981. GATX Financial Corp., a financier of
aircraft, had purchased the plane in December of
1980. Ariana Afghan Airlines leased it from that
company for a short period in May 1981.
Afterwards BMI operated it until November 1984
when it changed hands four more times through
1985. In January 1986 BAX Global purchased the
aircraft and leased it to both Southern Air
Transport, through October 1991, and the U.S.
based Buffalo Air, through April 1993. Finally
Northrop Grumman purchased the it, June 1994, for
the U.S. Air Force for future conversion and use
in the E8-C Joint-STARS fleet. Northrop Grumman
completed the conversion, June 1996 and 94-0284
was delivered to Robins AFB, 13 Aug. 1999.

purchased the aircraft in 1979 and leased it to
Sobelair for a ten year period, January 1979 -
January 1989. Afterward Finova Capital
Corporation purchased and leased it to two
companies over the following 3 years Florida
West International Airways, January 1990 -
January 1991 SAM Colombia, January - August
1991 and again Florida West International
Airways, August 1991 - April 1992. The U.S. Air
Force purchased the aircraft, May 1992, for
conversion and use in the E8-C Joint-STARS
fleet. Northrop Grumman completed its conversion,
June 1999, and 94-0285 was delivered to Robins
AFB, 27 Nov, 2000.

Royal Jordanian Airlines accepted initial
delivery of this aircraft, 3 March 1971. It
remained in service with that company until Omega
Air purchased it in May 1992. Two months later,
July 1992, the U.S. Air Force purchased the
aircraft for conversion and use in the E8-C
Joint-STARS fleet. Northrop Grumman completed
its conversion, December 1999, and 95-1022 was
delivered to Robins AFB, 1 Dec, 1999.

this aircraft, 12 Dec, 1968. It remained in
service with that company until May 1975 when
Kuwait Airways purchased and operated it until
March 1984. At that time, South Pacific Island
Airways leased the aircraft for a short period
ending in September 1985. It then passed through
several different owners until eventually being
purchased by Comtran International and
subsequently leased to Southern Air Transport,
May 1987. In November 1990, Florida West
International Airways leased it for a short time
until March 1992. Finally, the U.S. Air Force
purchased the aircraft for eventual conversion
and use in the E8-C Joint-STARS fleet, May
1992. Northrop Grumman completed its conversion,
July 2000, and 95-1022 was delivered to Robins
AFB, 3 March 2001.

later the U.K. based Pan Aviation purchased and

then leased it to AECA Cargo of Ecuador for a
short time until the U.S. based NMB Air
Operations Corp. purchased the aircraft, February
1988. NMB operated it until July 1995, when they
sold it to Omega Air Ltd. of Ireland for a one
year period ending in 1996. Finally the U.S. Air
Force purchased the aircraft, November 1996, to
be converted for use in the growing E8-C
Joint-STARS fleet. Northrop Grumman Corp.

Wardair Canada, a Canadian airline that operated
charter flights into and out of the United
States, accepted initial delivery of this
aircraft, 10 March 1970, where it remained in
service for more than ten years. Montana Austria
purchased and operated it, 18 Dec. 1979 until
they ceased operations, May 1981. The aircraft
was later impounded until the USAF purchased it
for use as a VIP transport, May 1985. It is
believed to have been seized from drug smugglers
by the US Justice Department at one time.
Northrop Grumman Corporation completed its
conversion to an E8-C Joint STARS aircraft,
February 2003, and 00-2000 was delivered to
Robins AFB, 24 Feb. 04.

tracking and telemetry missions in support of the
Apollo space program and other unmanned space
flight operations. Northrop Grumman Corp. later
converted the aircraft for use in the
P-16 configured for use as an Advance Range
Instrumentation Aircraft (ARIA) at Edwards AFB
California, 9 Oct 1999.
E8-C Joint-STARS fleet and 01-2005 was
delivered it to Robins AFB, 26 Feb. 04.
