Looks Like
  • Other names for a cougar are catamount mountain
lion , and puma . An adult mountain lion may be
either a gray color or a reddish or yellowish
color called tawny . The cubs have large
brownish black spots on the body and dark rings
    on the short tail .

3
Where It Lives
  • Mountain lions live in western provinces and
states from British Columbia to California and
New Mexico . The cougar or mountain lion are also
found in uninhabited areas of Florida and certain
other parts of the South. The cougars home is in
the forest. Near the rocky mountains .

4
What it Eats
  • Cougars prefer to eat deer , but beaver , rabbits
, birds , and even mice and frogs are also hunted
for food . They sometimes attack cattle .

5
Enemies
  • Other than humans , the cougars only enemy is
    the wolf.

6
Life Cycle
  • Mountain lions have from 1 to 5 cubs at a time ,
generally two years apart. The average number is
    3 cubs.

7
Interesting Facts
  • The heaviest mountain lion on record weighed 227
pounds ! In B.C. a woman was defending a child
from a mountain lion . The woman got killed and
was found in the forest .

8
Why Is It Endangered ?
  • The cougar is endangered because settlers and
hunters kill them for their fur. Their fur is
very soft. The hairs are fawn gray tipped with
    reddish brown or grey.

9
How Can We Protect Them ?
  • We can protect the cougar by telling the Governor
to say that hunters and settlers shouldnt kill
mountain lions. Keep them in an animal reserve .
