Teaching Tips
  • Direct students to the World News and/or Feature
Story as part of a year-long investigation into
the stories behind the stories. For example
  • - At the beginning of the year, have students
sign up for a date to give a Story Behind
    the Story presentation
  • - Instruct them to choose one of the stories
from the World Geography home page to read
and explore the related entries and
hyperlinks to images, maps, essays, other
    news stories
  • - Their presentations should include an
overview of the story, a why question,
and some answers to the why question
  • Use the Holidays Celebrations feature as your
source for posting what holiday it is somewhere
in the world on the board each day. Challenge
students to research the holiday, identify where
it is celebrated, and tell the class the next day
