- that are easily accessed in local communities.

- From 2005 to 2040, the population age 65 and over
is projected to grow from 2.2 to 6.3 million. - A growth rate of about 184 percent!

Baby Boomers
- Currently between the ages of 42-60
- One turns 50 every 9 seconds
- Represent 22 of the US population, and 20.2 of
the Texas population
Texas's 60 population is.
- Living longer
- Growing more rapidly than any other population
group - Becoming more diverse

- Texas ranked 6th in the U.S. in highest rate of
adult obesity at 25.3 percent - Cardiovascular diseases are among the 10 most
frequent causes of hospitalization of people 45
years and older in Texas - More than 1.3 million Texans have diagnosed
diabetes and an estimated 343,000 additional
Texans with undiagnosed diabetes - 46.3 - almost a half - of Texas residents aged
55 to 64 reported chronic joint symptoms
associated with arthritis
