Farmer Ann was chosen to go into town and spend
the entire amount of 100 of a tax return on
exactly 100 farm animals some cattle, some
sheep, and some horses. She discovered that
sheep cost 0.50 each, cattle cost 1.00 each,
and horses cost 10.00 each. This purchase, to
buy exactly 100 animals for 100 and have some of
each kind of animal, proved more difficult that
she had thought it would be. Your job is to find
a solution to Farmer Anns dilemma.

Mike is fascinated by the ice-cleaning machine as
it scrapes the ice between periods at the Dallas
Stars hockey game. The hockey rink is a
rectangle, 120 feet by 60 feet. The scraper
cleans a 4-foot-wide strip. If the machine
starts at one corner and moves around and around
the rink toward the center, on which trip around
will it have half the area of the rink clean?

At 700 one summer morning, Harry and Hermione
hopped into their speedy motorboat and left
Hogwarts Dock. They arrived at Dumbledore Wharf
35 minutes later. During the busy summer months,
a car ferry departs from Dumbledore Wharf every 5
minutes. Tourists crowd onto the ferry for the
55 minute ride to Hogwarts Dock. If Harry and
Hermione followed the route that the car ferries
take, how many car ferries did they see on their
trip?

Kasi is selling ads for sports section of the
local newspaper. The Texas Rangers, Dallas
Cowboys, Dallas Stars, and Dallas Mavericks (and
others) all want to buy ads, but Kasi only has
one page left to fill. The sizes of her ads are
one-half, one-fourth, one-eighth, and
one-sixteenth of a page. Before Kasi sells the
ads she has to figure out all of the different
combinations of her ads that would fill one page.
How many different combinations are there?
