Goals

• Motivate students to become strategic readers in
  all content areas
• Encourage students to read for pleasure
• Vocabulary development in written as well as
  spoken language

Our daily routine

• SSR-sustained silent reading for 10 minutes at
  the beginning of each class period
• Directed lesson focusing on a specific reading
  strategy with follow-up practice and
  reinforcement

Our daily routine

• Reinforcement of skill or strategy to follow with
  homework and/or activity the following lesson.
• Vocabulary lesson every Monday-
• Vocabulary quiz every two lessons

Reading Records

• Purpose-to encourage students to read and write
  on a daily basis!
• Read for 30-40 minutes 5 days a week
• Parent signature required for that week
• Collected the following week

Friday is Reading DayEach Friday we read aloud a
novel that continues from week to week.
Listening comprehension and questioning
throughout the reading period

How is On or Below reading levels determined?

• On grade level-students reading AND writing on
  8th grade level
• Below grade level-students who are unable to read
  grade level texts and write on grade level
