• Has a total embankment volume of more than 110

• The construction required the excavation of 40
  million yd3
• of foundation material
• The three dams are made from soil and rock
  materials
• Dam design took into consideration the effects of
• earthquakes
• the San Jacinto Fault (6 mi away)
• the San Andreas Fault (19 mi away)
• Reservoir is 8,000 ft wide at its west end,
  10,000 ft wide
• in the east, and about 2,500 ft wide near the
  middle
• Capable to supply southern California with six
  months
• worth of water in an emergency
• Reservoir is between 160 and 260 ft deep
• Total area takes up more than 4,500 acres
