Alcott Recess Rules
Here are some of the rules you need to know to
have fun at recess. Complete rules are posted in
Miss Zavales window. Recess teachers can create
and enforce rules as needed.
  • Be Safe.
  • Show respect for yourself and others.
  • Follow reasonable requests from an adult.
  • Accept responsibility for your behavior.

Where You Can Play
  • Black top between covered area and white line
    near 5th grade.
  • Covered area is closed unless it is raining.
  • No Fields
  • Off limits ramps and grass area in front of
    portables and areas hidden from sight.

Passes
  • Passes are required to go into the building once
    recess has started. Bathroom passes are for using
    the bathroom or getting a drink of water.
  • Use the bathrooms by the Gym.
  • Bathroom passes are NOT to be used to go back
    into the classroom or pod area.
  • Health room passes are for kids who get hurt.
  • No telephone passes.
  • Ask a recess teacher for the passes.

Mean Behavior is Unacceptable!
  • This includes
  • Teasing
  • Putdowns
  • Spreading Rumors
  • Name Calling
  • Swearing
  • Anything that hurts or offends others

Conflicts
  • The recess teachers are here to help you
  • Conflicts are not to be solved by violence
  • Fighting is not allowed. This includes
  • Play Fighting
  • Karate Kicks
  • Wrestling
  • Anything that looks like fighting
  • Any action that hurts another person

Bells and Whistles
  • Recess teachers will blow whistles at the end of
    morning recess (3 whistle blows)
  • Students must stop playing as soon as the
    whistles blow or bells ring and go to their
    classrooms
  • Recess teachers will also blow whistles to get
    students attention. Please look up if you hear a
    whistle blown.

Big Toy Rules
  • Slides Slide feet first, face up. Do not climb
    up the slides, no rocks or bark on the slides. No
    sliding on jackets.
  • Twirling bars two hands on bar at all times, no
    flips or death drops, one at a time.
  • Monkey Bars You must be tall enough to reach
    the bar, keep moving, no chicken fighting.

New Big Toy
  • Rock Climbing Wall keep moving, no sitting on
    top, be careful not to step on anyone, no jumping
    off.
  • Bouncy Buttons one at a time, keep moving.
  • U Bounce no more than 2 at a time, bounce on
    the step not on the purple bar.
  • Flip Flop Sit, do not stand on the seats.

Old Big Toy
  • Clatter Bridge keep moving, do not block the
    bridge. The yellow rails are not to be climbed
    on.
  • Rope Climbing Wall keep moving, do not jump off
    the ropes, do not swing from the top rail.

Game Playing
  • The games we play here must be fair.
  • Our students are good sports.
  • Everyone playing needs to agree on the same
    rules.
  • Players can be removed from games.
  • Play Tag gently and with students who want to
    play.
  • Walk around games in progress.

Even More Ball Games
  • Tetherball take turns. Do not sit on or kick
    the tetherballs.
  • Hand (wall) ball No games are to be played that
    involve hitting, throwing or kicking the ball at
    or near children on the wall (such as suicide or
    shadow).
  • These need to be played in the designated courts.

Rainy Days
  • No puddle jumping or wading in puddles.
  • No playing in the puddles or splashing.
  • Please wear a water proof jacket and hat.
  • Sweatshirts are not waterproof.
  • Umbrellas must have safety tips.

The Last Few Rules ?
  • No piggy back rides.
  • No cutting in line or spots back.
  • Toys and valuables from home need to stay home.
    This includes electronic devices and card games.
  • Candy, gum, food and water bottles are not
    allowed outside.
  • No throwing anything rocks, pinecones, bark or
    branches.
  • Bugs and Insects need to stay outside.
