CMS Transition Plan

• With the upcoming release of Microsoft Office
  SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007, Microsoft has
  included web content management functionality
  that used to exist in CMS 2002, into MOSS 2007
  thereby effectively ending the life of CMS 2002
  as a standalone product.
• Since there are a number of customers that have
  purchased CMS 2002 on SA, Microsoft needs to help
  transition these customer licenses from CMS 2002
  to MOSS 2007.

• Enterprise CALs will not be available until the
  products are launched, however customers will be
  able to order them on the agreement
• Customers will receive CALs for the products that
  are available at the time their order is
  processed
• All other CALs will be made available as the
  products launch

• All branding and information will talk about
  Windows Vista Enterprise for EA customers
• In the price list there will only be a SKU for
  Windows Vista Business
• All Windows Vista Business orders for EA
  customers (or customers with Software Assurance)
  will be fulfilled with Windows Vista Enterprise
• Can substitute Windows Vista Ultimate
• No VLK, devices need to be activated manually

Windows Vista Volume Activation 2.0

• Microsoft needed to engineer a product that would
  be less vulnerable to piracy and counterfeit uses
• Microsoft wanted to add a set of tools that are
  designed to insure a more managed installation
  environment
• Two methods of activation
• Multiple Key Activation (MAK)
• Management Service (KMS)
• Customers may use a combination of these
  solutions for their deployment.

Windows Vista Volume Activation 2.0

• Multiple Activation Key (MAK) Activation
• MAKs are activated via internet or telephone and
  have a limited number of activations associated
  with them.
• Computers can be activated individually or by a
  central computer which can activate multiple
  computers at a time.
• MAKs are obtained either via MVLS or EOPEN or by
  calling the product activation centre (1800 642
  008 in AUST.)
• Key Management Service (KMS) Activation
• Intended for managed environments where users
  regularly connect to the network. KMS is a
  centralized service that runs on a dedicated
  computer in the customers network.
• t protects the VLK and automatically activates
  and validates the clients. Thereafter, clients
  must be reconnected and validated every 180 days.
• Targeted at networks with 25 or more client
  devices
• 30 Day grace period.
• Clients must connect and validate every 180 days.
