Our Galaxy The Milky Way

• The Milky Way, consists of nine planets.
• It has billions of stars.
• The planets revolve around the sun, the focus of
  the Milky way.

Mercury

• Mercury is the closest planet to the sun.
• It is close in size to our moon.
• It appears as a bright star in our sky an hour
  before sunrise or an hour after sunset.

Venus

• Venus is the second planet from the sun.
• It is very bright.
• A long time ago, Venus was very similar to the
  Earth.
• It had clouds and water.

Earth

• Earth is our planet, the third planet from the
  sun.
• We are the only planet with living organisms.
• We have one moon.
• 71 of the Earth is covered with water.
• Earth is 4.5 billion years old!

• Mars is the fourth planet from the sun.
• It is known as the red planet.
• There are huge volcanoes on Mars.

Jupiter

• Jupiter is the fifth planet from the sun.
• It is the biggest planet in the Milky Way.
• Jupiter has sixteen moons.
• A spaceship could not land on Jupiter because
  its surface is made of gas.

Saturn

• Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun.
• It is surrounded by rings made of ice.
• It has 18 moons.
• Some people think Saturn is the most beautiful
  planet to look at.

Uranus

• Uranus is the seventh planet from the sun.
• It appears to be blue right now, but the color
  changes according to season.
• It has rings and 21 moons.

Neptune

• Neptune is the eighth planet from the sun.
• Neptune was discovered by using math equations
  instead of a telescope.
• It also appears blue and has a great big dark
  spot.

Pluto

• Pluto is the farthest planet from the sun.
• It is also the smallest planet smaller than our
  moon!!
• You can only see Pluto in an observatory because
  it is too small to see even with a telescope.
• Pluto appears pink.
