• In the broadest sense, science refers to any
  system of objective (?) knowledge. In a more
  restricted sense, science refers to a system of
  acquiring knowledge based on the scientific
  method, as well as to the organized body of
  knowledge gained through such research.

Creativity (though sometimes in different

observing, experimenting but without
guarantees of any specific outcome Technology

Art and Science Differences
Epistemology How can/do we know
things? Science There is a reality separate
from us and by using the right methods we can
learn the true facts of that reality. Art
Reality is what we perceive. There are no methods
that are not tainted by their context. And the
way we are looking at something will change it.
Qualitative vs. Quantitative data Science tend
to favor quantitative data (numerical, possible
to make calculations on) Art Tend to favor
qualitative data (not numerical, statements,
observations, opinions)

What can artists contribute with to science?
1. Art can have a one-person perspective, no
need to be objective. 2. Abandoned, discredited
unorthodox inquires can be pursued (art practice
is outside normal sciences ( Kuhn)) 3.
Artworks are evaluated using different criteria
than scientific projects, (aesthetic, poetic) and
because of that the work could find things that
is not discovered in normal science. 4. Art can
better address the need of the public, as well as
present information in a better way than
scientists. 5. Art can help create an
understanding of the implications of scientific
research on society and people. (For example many
artists works with genetics to make us aware of
its implications) 6. Artists are used to take on
interdisciplinary and diverse questions and make
projects that draw on many different
disciplines. 7. Not being experts can be good in
that you are not limited to find/see what you
think is possible. (Since you dont know what is
possible or not). So not knowing can lead the
artists to make connections and findings that
would be overlooked by scientists.
