Congress works to help Australias first peoples
fulfil their calling as Christians.

Through pastoral care, training, youth camps, and
worship, it aims to empower indigenous people for
ministry, evangelism and leadership, and ensure
that they have a voice in the church. Your

The statement We are a Multicultural Church,
adopted by the National Assembly in 1985,
celebrated the cultural and ethnic diversity of
the Uniting Church and committed it to bear
witness to a unity of faith and life in Christ
which transcends cultural and economic, national
and racial boundaries.

The Board of Missions cross-cultural consultants
work with Uniting Church leaders and
congregations to promote multicultural awareness
and develop mission with people from different
cultural backgrounds.

Special Religious Education in schools offers a
wonderful opportunity for the church to connect
with young people. In government schools,
students receive weekly Scripture classes thanks
to hundreds of volunteer teachers.

expanded to cover many campuses across New South
Wales and the ACT. It seeks to grow vibrant
groups of Christians committed to building
Christian community on their campuses and

Preparing people for lay ministry is becoming
increasingly important particularly in rural
areas.
The Uniting Churchs ELM Centre offers education
for life and ministry through a wide range of
events, education and training opportunities
around New South Wales and the ACT.

ELM offers distance education through Coolamon
College, lay preacher schools and expos on music,
discipleship and evangelism, worship and social
justice, fun biblical studies and worship

crucial to the church as it seeks to grow and
develop leadership.

The Uniting Church has full-time chaplains in New
South Wales prisons and mental health facilities.
They work with some of the most vulnerable,
broken and needy people in our community,
bringing them Gods message of hope, love and
mercy.

about faith and spirituality increasingly
challenged and questioned, the Uniting Church
encourages them in their journey and equips them
for leadership and discipleship.

The Youth Unit gives young people opportunities
to talk about the big things of life to be part
of a Christian community to ask questions and be
taken seriously to learn and think and pray.

Rural people face all sorts of challenges
isolation, vast distances to travel, and of
course, the uncertainty of life on the land,
particularly in times of drought. Many rural
congregations have been without an ordained
minister for a long time.

working hard often in very difficult
circumstances to bring encouragement, hope and
practical help to rural, remote and regional

range of services to children, young people and
their families, including new experiences, which
are crucial for healthy development.

to connect with the communities around them
through café-style church services, art and craft
groups for children, faith communities in new
housing areas, and more.
