• Sizing 10 cm to 22 cm in length 8 to 20 mm
  diameter, minimum variation in pack Pack mass
  400g
• Organoleptic Crisp and firm (stems should snap
  when folded in half), Fresh and clean in smell.
• Appearance Fresh bright medium to dark green
  colour neatly graded tender-stem broccoli,
  trimmed Free from soil splash, bruising and
  insect contamination.
• Stems packed landscape with cut ends facing
  inwards

  longitudinally
• Any other presentation of the product shall
  permitted provided that it
• Is sufficiently distinctive from other forms of
  presentation laid down in this standard
• Meets all other requirements of this standard
• Is adequately described on the label to avoid
  confusing and misleading the consumer

• Visual reasonably uniform characteristic colour,
  taking into consideration any added optional
  ingredients
• Free from foreign flavour and odour taking into
  consideration any added optional ingredients
• Reasonably free from an excessive amount of leaf
  material, particularly large coarse leaves
• Reasonably free from damage due to mechanical,
  pathological, or insect injury

EFFECTS OF PRIVATE STANDARDS

• Compliance very difficult since local
  laboratories are not adequate
• Phyto-sanitary inspection not easily done due to
  obstruction by the logo

• Satisfies customer requirements
• Challenges farmers on importance of maintaining
  and continuously improving standards
