2Yorks life
- York was born in Pall Mall Tennessee on December
13, 1887. T his is a picture of his family in
1900.
- York died on September 2, 1964 at the Veterans
Hospital in Nashville Tennessee.This is a picture
of where he is buried.
3Known Accomplishments
- During WWI on October 8, 1918 York killed 25
Germans and Captured 132 with an army of less
than 15.This was remembered in history and York
was given the Congressional Medal of Honor.
- Less than 10 years after war York established the
agricultural institute. He spent many years
raising money before it opened.
4Yorks Effects in History
- Without York we may not have had won WWI. He is a
very memorable person, no man has never captured
so many with such a small army. - Not only did York win our country a war he
established a private institute to help others
learn.
5Significance
- He became well know from his war events in 1918.
He did not stop there, he continued to help our
country better itself. It takes a good church
going man to accomplish all of these things. He
was so significant in history he had a movie made
about him. This picture is taken from the opening
of his movie.
6This year in history
- This year in history over 20 million people were
killed by the influenza epidemic.
- During war time Alvin York was the man of the
year.
7Yorks personal life
York in front of his home.
- After war Alvin married a young woman named
Gracie. They were both very holy, right before
war Gracie turned Alvin into a pacifist. They
started a family after war. Photo to the right is
their family in 1938.
8Yorks later years
- York was not in his prime in his later years. He
had a brain clot in 1954 and was bed ridden. He
was than in the circle electric chair.
9More stuff you should know about York
- As you know York had an excellent shot. He was
basically born with it. He had a great eye even
before he went to war. York won the turkey shoot
in 1916.
