2Repentance
3Repent
- Matt 32-3
- 2 and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven
is at hand!" - 3 For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet
Isaiah, saying - "The voice of one crying in the
wilderness - 'Prepare the way of the LORD
4To repent means
- Strong definition of New Testament words
- 3340 - metanoeo (met-an-o-eh'-o)- to think
differently or to think afterwards, to reconsider - A combination of 2 Greek words
- meta (met-ah') after (-ward), again,
- plus
- noeo (no-eh'-o) to exercise the mind (observe),
to comprehend, to heed, to consider, perceive,
think, and understand.
5A scriptural picture of true repentance
- Matt 2128-31
- "But what do you think? A man had two sons, and
he came to the first and said, 'Son, go, work
today in my vineyard.' - 29 He answered and said, 'I will not,' but
afterward he regretted it and went. - 30 Then he came to the second and said likewise.
And he answered and said, 'I go, sir,' but he did
not go. - 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?"
- They said to Him, "The first."
6The first son experienced
- An emotional change of regret (that enabled
him) - A change of his will
- (his will said,I will not)
-
- A change of direction
- (he went)
7The first son did the will of his father because
- He changed his mind and conformed to the will of
his father - So repentance is
- A mental turn around
- To have another mind
- To think differently
- To reverse a decision
- To change an attitude
- To change course or direction
8Repentance is not just sorrow
- 2 Cor 78-10
- 8 For even if I made you sorry with my letter, I
do not regret it though I did regret it. For I
perceive that the same epistle made you sorry,
though only for a while. - 9 Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry,
but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you
were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might
suffer loss from us in nothing. - 10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading
to salvation, not to be regretted but the sorrow
of the world produces death.
9Sorrow leads to Repentance, Repentance leads to
Truth
- 2Tim.224-25
- 24 And the Lord's servant must not quarrel
instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to
teach, not resentful. - 25 Those who oppose him he must gently instruct,
in the hope that God will grant them repentance
leading them to a knowledge of the truth, - 26 and that they will come to their senses and
escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken
them captive to do his will.
10Sorrow is
- Sadness, grief, heaviness
- The work of regret or remorse
- Sadness because of exposure
- To be distressed in ungodly activities
- A necessary prerequisite for repentance (Godly
sorrow) - The feeling of being to up from the flo up

righteousness, from dead works, and any other

provision for deliverance from sin. - Changing the mind about your own works and

God that Jesus is the savior of all sinners - Acts 20212619-20

- make straight paths for him.'"

that are the penitents steps of transformation

committed, - 26 to demonstrate at the present time His
righteousness, that He might be just and the
justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

suitable man. 22 The goat shall bear on itself
all their iniquities to an uninhabited land and
he shall release the goat in the wilderness.
