  • Who can use New Directions
  • If you need 5 hours a week this is for you
  • If you need 24 hours a day, 7 days a week this is
    for you
  • If you are a youth transitioning out of school
    this is for you.
  • If you receive any type of DDA funding or in the
    case transitioning youth or waiting list dollars
    from DDA New Directions is for you
  • if you are in a residential facility this is for
    you.

  • Authority over the public dollars that support
    them
  • Support to make their lives and dreams come true
  • Responsibility to not take more then they need
  • Confirmation of the important role self advocates
    play in the newly design system

  • Person Center Plan
  • Individual Budget that is designed by the person
    with trusted allies if needed
  • Support Broker (also in Maryland a Resource
    Coordinator) that helps to set up supports
  • Fiscal Management Services (FMS) that pays the
    bills and payroll

Person Centered Plan
  • Once you pull down the DDA Person Centered Plan
    packet you begin your Person Centered Plan
  • Your plan is your own, nobody elses. Filled out
    by you with help from people you trust (Friends,
    Family and others that you feel comfortable
    with).

Who can help you fill out your plan?
  • People you feel comfortable with that can help
    you write down the most important things about
    you and how you want to be supported
  • Your Support Broker
  • Resource Coordinator

You are the BOSS!
  • When you hire people to support you, you are
    their boss!
  • You become the employer of record.
  • Your Fiscal Management Service will help you with
    the required forms and information that you will
    need to do this.
  • You send in your employees time sheets and other
    bills related to DDA funding.

Trainings that you may need
  • Your employees will need CPR and First Aid
    training
  • If you take medications that someone has to give
    you your employees will need Medication
    Certification
  • You will need to train your employees on how you
    want to be supported
  • Your Support Broker will need to go through a DDA
    training and be certified
