Internship
  • Cinzia Rocca Showroom, New York City
  • During my internship I participated in many
    administrative activities. I assisted the sales
    team during market appointments by keeping track
    of the order style numbers and colors or by being
    a fit model. I paid the bills for the company
    every month and I was in charge of sample
    trafficking while I was there. I also kept a
    scrapbook of all the press that Cinzia Rocca was
    in during 2008. I developed sales reports and
    distribution charts on excel. The opposite page
    is an ad that I manipulated and fixed up in
    Photoshop before we sent in to be in Harpers
    Bazaar Runway Report.

Photoshoots
  • New York, New York
  • During my time in New York, I took a
    fashion styling course at The Fashion Institute
    of Technology. The course taught me the ins and
    outs of fashion styling for print and film. I
    used these newly acquired skills to partake in
    test photo shoots with a team of skilled
    professionals. I did two separate shoots with
    the same photographer but different models and
    hair and make-up stylists. It was a great
    experience and it gave me an opportunity to work
    hands on with a team to produce a quality
    product. The following slides are pieces of my
    work.

Advanced Apparel Construction
  • In advanced construction I made a tailored
    jacket made of 100 wool. I used my personal
    measurements for the construction of this jacket.
    I used the same wool to create a knee length
    pencil skirt. Because the jacket was a
    complicated pattern, it really helped to improve
    me sewing skills. I now feel like I can make
    anything.

Pattern Making
  • In the pattern making class I learned to draft
    and alter patterns to create original designs.
    My first project was to use a standard sloper and
    alter it to create a skirt made in Computer aided
    design by another class. For my final project I
    designed, patterned and created in muslin a
    Edwardian inspired dress. I used a standard
    sloper pattern and altered it to create my
    Edwardian piece.

Threads Fashion Show 2009
  • In 2009, I designed and constructed a line for
    the student-run Threads Fashion Show. My line
    incorporated a United States Navy theme using
    nautical colors, inspired by my grandfathers
    service to The Navy. I designed three dresses,
    one bathing suit and a skirt and top.

Fashion Illustration
  • For my final project in fashion illustration we
    were to choose a retailer and design a line based
    on their target market and company standards. I
    chose the well-known retailer Ann Taylor. I
    combined there mature style and edgy but classic
    colors for my line. The opposites page is one of
    the outfits that I created. Included are sample
    swatches of fabric that would be used in
    producing this outfit.

Advanced Fashion Illustration
  • Over the summer in 2007 I took an optional
    advanced illustration class. I wanted to improve
    my newly acquired drawing skills. The class
    really extended my knowledge in fashion
    illustration. I improved my basic fashion figure
    and also learned to draw men, children and plus
    size figures. I developed trend boards and color
    ways in order to create my lines. The opposite
    page is a womens outfit I created from a trend
    board. On the inside of the tri-fold there is a
    mens outfit that I designed for the fashion
    retailer Ruehl. I also created a fall 2007 color
    way for this line.

Computer Aided Design Using Adobe Illustrator
  • The line on the opposite page was one of the
    first assignments I completed in Illustrator. We
    were to design an interchangeable line using a
    color way. I created a cardigan, camisole and a
    pair of pants for my line. The color palette was
    fall inspired.

Computer Aided Design Prints
  • These prints were designed using shapes and
    motifs from greeting cards. Each print is
    corresponded with the card that was used to
    create it. The cards were scanned into Photoshop
    then exported as a jpeg and imported into
    Illustrator. I used the lasso tool to outline
    pieces of the card that I like and then arranged
    these shapes into the final prints.

Visual Merchandising Windows
  • In the visual class, I was assigned a partner for
    the semester. My partner and I were responsible
    for creating three windows throughout the
    semester and one in-store visual display. The
    windows went as follows
  • Window 1 A display for a non-profit
    organization Dress for Success. The
    organization was assigned to us and we researched
    it to create a window that increased awareness.
  • Window 2 A large window display that advertised
    TJ. MAXX. We used furniture, dishes and clothes
    from the store to decorate the window, based on a
    café theme.
  • Window 3 A display for a local Tuxedo Shop. We
    used Ties, a dress shirt and a pair of pants to
    show that kind of merchandise that the store
    carries.

Textile Analysis
  • The fabric swatches on the opposite page were a
    part of a 130 swatch book. Throughout the
    semester the fabric swatches were analyzed and
    approved or denied based on a series of
    experiments and fabric qualities.

Marketing
  • In my personal selling class, I spent the
    semester working through the Carew international
    course to become certified in the dimensions of
    professional selling. Students that successfully
    completed the course were rewarded with a
    certification card. The opposite page is an
    example of a planning sheet that we used
    throughout the semester and my Carew
    International Certification card.
