Title: What think ye of Christ Matt 22:42
1What think ye of Christ?(Matt 2242)
2- (Matt 2241-46) While the Pharisees were
gathered together, Jesus asked them, Saying, What
think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say
unto him, The Son of David. He saith unto them,
How then doth David in spirit call him Lord,
saying, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on
my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy
footstool? If David then call him Lord, how is
he his son? And no man was able to answer him a
word, neither durst any man from that day forth
ask him any more questions.
3Who is Jesus? (To You?)
- What do you think of the Christ?
- (Mark 1615-16)
- Great Commission
- In order to fulfill this mission we need to
completely understand who Jesus is.
4Jesus is Our Savior
- (Gal 44-6) But when the fulness of the time was
come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman,
made under the law, To redeem them that were
under the law, that we might receive the adoption
of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent
forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts,
crying, Abba, Father.
5Jesus is Our Savior
- Made of Woman
- (John 114) And the Word was made flesh, and
dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the
glory as of the only begotten of the Father,)
full of grace and truth. - Knows what its like to be tempted to be human
6God Cannot be Tempted
- (James 113) Let no man say when he is tempted,
I am tempted of God for God cannot be tempted
with evil, neither tempteth he any man
7Jesus Was Able to Be Tempted
- (Heb 415-16) For we have not an high priest
which cannot be touched with the feeling of our
infirmities but was in all points tempted like
as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore
come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may
obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of
need.
8Jesus was Made Under the Law
- (Matt 121) And she shall bring forth a son, and
thou shalt call his name JESUS for he shall save
his people from their sins. - (Luke 210-11) And the angel said unto them,
Fear not for, behold, I bring you good tidings
of great joy, which shall be to all people. For
unto you is born this day in the city of David a
Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
9Jesus was Made Under the Law
- Herod Knew the King was to be born in Bethlehem.
- (Matt 23-6) When Herod the king had heard these
things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with
him. And when he had gathered all the chief
priests and scribes of the people together, he
demanded of them where Christ should be born.
And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea
for thus it is written by the prophet, And thou
Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least
among the princes of Juda for out of thee shall
come a Governor, that shall rule my people
Israel.
10Jesus was Made Under the Law
- The Wise Men Knew Who Jesus Was
- (Matt 211) And when they were come into the
house, they saw the young child with Mary his
mother, and fell down, and worshipped him and
when they had opened their treasures, they
presented unto him gifts gold, and frankincense,
and myrrh.
11Jesus was Made Under the Law
The Degree of HOW much the Law Convinced Them of
the Christ!
- (Matt 216) Then Herod, when he saw that he was
mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and
sent forth, and slew all the children that were
in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from
two years old and under, according to the time
which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.
12Made Under the Law to Fulfill It
- (Matt 517-18) Think not that I am come to
destroy the law, or the prophets I am not come
to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say
unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or
one title shall in no wise pass from the law,
till all be fulfilled.
13Jesus came to save people from their sins
- (John 316-17) For God so loved the world, that
he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever
believeth in him should not perish, but have
everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into
the world to condemn the world but that the
world through him might be saved. He that
believeth on him is not condemned but he that
believeth not is condemned already, because he
hath not believed in the name of the only
begotten Son of God.
14Jesus came to save people from their sins
- (1 John 22) And he is the propitiation for our
sins and not for ours only, but also for the
sins of the whole world. - Propitiation Take away the wrath of God by
becoming the substitute for us.
15Our Substitution Jesus Christ
- (Rom 56-9) For when we were yet without
strength, in due time Christ died for the
ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will
one die yet peradventure for a good man some
would even dare to die. But God commendeth his
love toward us, in that, while we were yet
sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then,
being now justified by his blood, we shall be
saved from wrath through him.
16Jesus Is Our Savior!
- (1 Tim 115) This is a faithful saying, and
worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came
into the world to save sinners of whom I am
chief.
17Jesus Is Our Lord
- (1 Cor 13) Grace be unto you, and peace, from
God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. - Lord - kurios (koo'-ree-os) from kuros
(supremacy) supreme in authority, i.e. (as noun)
controller by implication, Mr. (as a respectful
title)
18Supreme In Authority
- (Matt 2819) All power is given unto me in
heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach
all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I
have commanded you and, lo, I am with you alway,
even unto the end of the world. Amen.
19Jesus Is Our Lord
- (Phil 26-11) Wherefore God also hath highly
exalted him, and given him a name which is above
every name Jesus Christ is Lord - (Acts 236) Therefore let all the house of
Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that
same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and
Christ.
20Jesus Is Our Lord
King of kings and Lord of lords
- (1 Tim 615) Which in his times he shall shew,
who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King
of kings, and Lord of lords
21Jesus is Our Intercessor
- (Heb 724-25) But this man, because he
continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.
Wherefore he is able also to save them to the
uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he
ever liveth to make intercession for them.
22Jesus is Our Intercessor
- Makes petitions on our behalf
- Levite Priesthood Went to offer up sacrifice
for the nation of God. - Jesus Christ Went into the holies of holy to
offer up himself for all. - (Heb 726-27) For such an high priest became
us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate
from sinners, and made higher than the heavens
Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to
offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and
then for the people's for this he did once, when
he offered up himself.
23Jesus is Our Intercessor
- (1 John 21) My little children, these things
write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man
sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus
Christ the righteous
24Jesus Is Our Mediator
- Jesus is our go between, our middle men.
- Man God
(1 Tim 25-6) For there is one God, and one
mediator between God and men, the man Christ
Jesus Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be
testified in due time.
With Christ
Before Sin
After Sin
25Our Mediator When We Pray
- (John 1623) And in that day ye shall ask me
nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you,
Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he
will give it you.
26Jesus Is Our Example
- (1 Pet 220-24) For what glory is it, if, when
ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it
patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer
for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable
with God. For even hereunto were ye called
because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us
an example, that ye should follow his steps Who
did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth
Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again when
he suffered, he threatened not but committed
himself to him that judgeth righteously Who his
own self bare our sins in his own body on the
tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live
unto righteousness by whose stripes ye were
healed.
27Jesus Is Our Example
- (Matt 1624) Then said Jesus unto his disciples,
If any man will come after me, let him deny
himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. - (1 John 26) He that saith he abideth in him
ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
28Jesus is Our Example
- (Heb 121-2) Wherefore seeing we also are
compassed about with so great a cloud of
witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the
sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run
with patience the race that is set before us,
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our
faith who for the joy that was set before him
endured the cross, despising the shame, and is
set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
