• Human ability to think and understand
• Relate to God in prayer and worship
• Perfect sin-free relationship now lost
• Reflection of the divine community of love (us)

• The Bible teaches that humans are the pinnacle
  of creation. God has made us tenderly,
  intricately, and lovingly. Being made in the
  image of God gives status and privilege. We are
  not the gory aftermath of the battles of the
  gods, made from the entrails left on the field of
  battle, our sole duty to serve as slaves of gods
  - as in other religions of the time. (page 27)

• to have dominion responsible stewardship,
  caring, ruling in Gods place, with righteousness
  and justice.
• be fruitful, multiply and fill the earth
  share in Gods creativity - responsibility

  time.

Sinners before God

• We are made in the image of God, but we confess
  that we are sinners.
• What is sin?

Sinners before God

• A one-sided focus on sin, our own sin or the sin
  of others, soon detracts from the joy of
  salvation. Such preoccupation can easily breed
  low self esteem.

• Sound teaching of original sin is health-giving
  and life restoring
• False confidence is removed
• Perfectionism vanishes
• Honesty takes centre stage
• The emphasis falls on Christs give of grace

• In the first account equality is unquestionable
• In the second things LOOK different
• Eve made second
• Eve made as Adams partner/helper.
• Eve is more gullible and then acts as temptress
• Punishment says women are subordinate

• Emphasis is on perfect balance Gods perfect
  design says they are meant for each other.
• Story builds to man and woman becoming one flesh.
• Helper use elsewhere to describe God Ex 184
  Deut 337,26,29 Ps 202 3320 etc

• The goal of partnership remains our aim.

Seeking God?

• How can sinful human beings now find God?
• in creation (Rom 112 Psalm 8)
• in history
• in reason

God seeks us

• God reveals himself to us in his (inspired) word
• (Law and Gospel)
• but the important part is that which proclaims -
  Christ

• If you over emphasise Gods inspiration then
  Bible becomes an infallible supernatural book
  with all of equal importance.
• If you over emphasise that which reveals Christ
  is most important then we become judges of what
  is divine and what isnt.

• Its alive and real!
