• 1/The Giver 1 Samuel 181-4
• 1 After David had finished talking with Saul,
  Jonathan became one in spirit with David, and he
  loved him as himself. 2 From that day Saul kept
  David with him and did not let him return to his
  father's house. 3 And Jonathan made a covenant
  with David because he loved him as himself. 4
  Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and
  gave it to David, along with his tunic, and even
  his sword, his bow and his belt.

• 2/ The Advocate 1 Samuel 191-7
• 1 Saul told his son Jonathan and all the
  attendants to kill David. But Jonathan was very
  fond of David 2 and warned him, "My father Saul
  is looking for a chance to kill you. Be on your
  guard tomorrow morning go into hiding and stay
  there. 3 I will go out and stand with my father
  in the field where you are. I'll speak to him
  about you and will tell you what I find out."
• 4 Jonathan spoke well of David to Saul his father
  and said to him, "Let not the king do wrong to
  his servant David he has not wronged you, and
  what he has done has benefited you greatly. 5 He
  took his life in his hands when he killed the
  Philistine. The LORD won a great victory for all
  Israel, and you saw it and were glad. Why then
  would you do wrong to an innocent man like David
  by killing him for no reason?"
• 6 Saul listened to Jonathan and took this oath
  "As surely as the LORD lives, David will not be
  put to death."
• 7 So Jonathan called David and told him the whole
  conversation. He brought him to Saul, and David
  was with Saul as before.

• 16 And Saul's son Jonathan went to David at
  Horesh and helped him find strength in God. 17
  "Don't be afraid," he said. "My father Saul will
  not lay a hand on you. You will be king over
  Israel, and I will be second to you. Even my
  father Saul knows this." 18 The two of them made
  a covenant before the LORD. Then Jonathan went
  home, but David remained at Horesh.

• 17 David took up this lament concerning Saul and
  his son Jonathan, 18 and ordered that the men of
  Judah be taught this lament of the bow (it is
  written in the Book of Jashar)
• 19 "Your glory, O Israel, lies slain on your
  heights. How the mighty have fallen!
• 23 "Saul and Jonathan in life they were loved
  and gracious, and in death they were not parted.
  They were swifter than eagles, they were stronger
  than lions.
• 24 "O daughters of Israel, weep for Saul, who
  clothed you in scarlet and finery, who adorned
  your garments with ornaments of gold.
• 25 "How the mighty have fallen in battle!
  Jonathan lies slain on your heights.
• 26 I grieve for you, Jonathan my brother you
  were very dear to me. Your love for me was
  wonderful, more wonderful than that of women.
• 27 "How the mighty have fallen! The weapons of
  war have perished!

• 2/ Loyalty 2 Samuel 91-13
• 1 David asked, "Is there anyone still left of the
  house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for
  Jonathan's sake?
• 3 The king asked, "Is there no one still left of
  the house of Saul to whom I can show God's
  kindness?" Ziba answered the king, "There is
  still a son of Jonathan he is crippled in both
  feet."
• 5 So King David had him brought from Lo Debar,
  from the house of Makir son of Ammiel.
• 6 When Mephibosheth son of Jonathan, the son of
  Saul, came to David, he bowed down to pay him
  honor. David said, "Mephibosheth!" "Your
  servant," he replied.
• 7 "Don't be afraid," David said to him, "for I
  will surely show you kindness for the sake of
  your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all
  the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul,
  and you will always eat at my table."
• 8 Mephibosheth bowed down and said, "What is your
  servant, that you should notice a dead dog like
  me?
• 11 ... So Mephibosheth ate at David's table like
  one of the king's sons.
• 13 And Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, because
  he always ate at the king's table, and he was
  crippled in both feet.

Friendship with God

• God made us his friends ROMANS 59-10
• By his sacrificial death we are now put right
  with God We were Gods enemies, but he made us
  his friends through the death of his Son.
• Jesus called us his friends JOHN 1513-15
• Greater love has no one than this, that he lay
  down his life for his friends. You are my friends
  if you do what I command. I no longer call you
  servants, because a servant does not know his
  master's business. Instead, I have called you
  friends, for everything that I learned from my
  Father I have made known to you.
