Library Hours
  • 745-345
  • Open for 7th grade lunch (Coming Soon)
  • When there is a class scheduled during 7th grade
    lunch, the library will closed.
  • You will need a pass to come to the library
    during school hours.

Library Rules
  • Walk in the library
  • Keep voices down at a respectable level
  • Always use a place marker when looking for books
    on the shelf
  • Help keep our library shelves clean and orderly
  • Chat rooms and games are not allowed
  • Always ask before you print
  • Ask for help

Consequences
  • Warning about your behavior
  • I will ask you to sit down until I think you are
    ready to participate OR
  • I will ask you to straighten up the shelf and
    return it to the order it was in
  • I will not allow you to check out a book and/or
    use a computer.

A little about me
  • I have been a librarian for over 10 years.
  • I was a teacher for 5 years.
  • I have worked at the Elementary, High School and
    now Middle School level.
  • I used to train teachers and librarians in using
    technology.
  • I love old school video games and Guitar Hero.

How to check out a book
  • Bring your student ID and book to the circulation
    desk.
  • Hand it to the librarian or library aide for
    checkout.
  • Make sure you know when your book is due.
  • Library fines are 10 cents a day.
  • 3.00 maximum overdue fine

Bringing books back
  • Use the book drop to bring your books back.
  • You can also give the book to me, or one of my
    library aides.
  • Let us know that you are bringing it back to be
    turned in, and not to be re-shelved.

Dewey Decimal System
  • How books are organized in the library
  • Think of it like a street with houses
  • Only certain books live at that address
  • The Dewey system is made up of numbers and
    letters to make that address.

Non-Fiction
  • Books that are made of facts
  • They are not telling a story
  • In the TV world, non-fiction books would be like
    The Discovery Channel, The History Channel, and
    The Learning Channel.
  • These books usually have a Dewey number.

Biography
  • Biography are the only non-fiction book that has
    a letter in its call number. B
  • These books are about peoples lives
  • The call number has the first 3 letters of the
    persons last name.
  • Example B WAS for George Washington
  • One exception is if you are a king or queen the
    first 3 letters of your name is used
  • B GEO for King George

Fiction
  • Fiction books are made up stories.
  • In the TV world, these are like movies, comedies
    and cartoons.
  • Their Dewey number is F
  • The first 3 letters of the authors last name
    follows the F
  • For example F ROW for JK Rowling

Reference Books
  • These books are encyclopedias or specialty
    encyclopedias
  • These books cannot be checked out
  • They have an REF in the call number and then the
    regular Dewey number follows.
  • These are non-fiction books.

Library Catalog
  • The library catalog is accessible from anywhere
    in the school or at home.
  • If you are using a school computer, you will need
    to login with your username and password.
