Title: The study of plasmatic biochimic components associated with the pathologic aging of dogs

1
The study of plasmatic biochimic components
associated with the pathologic aging of dogs
  • Dr. Sergiu Iancu

2
Introduction
  • Geriatrics is that branch of medicine that treats
    problems particular to old age.
  • Life span and life expectancy differ among
species and among individual members of a
species, and this variabilility suggest that a
genetic component is responsible for the normal
    aging process.

3
Objectives
  • The objective of this work is the investigation
of certain biochimic parameters to old dogs with
different system diseases and the comparing with
results from biochimic parameters of healthy dogs
with ages between 8 and 12 years.

4
Methods
  • Old dogs with age between 8 and 15 years were
    picked for this research.
  • The clinic and biochimic exam as well as the draw
up of the clinic observation papers, for each
animal, was made at SC. Biovet S.R.L.
  • Were examined 18 cases with the formation of
    three batches of animals.

5
Methods
  • Batch 1 healthy dogs with age between 8 and
    12 yers
  • Batch 2 animals with diffrent systemic disease,
with age between 10 and 12 yers
  • Batch 3animals with diffrent systemic disease,
with age between 12 and 15 yers
  • All cases were examined clinically, blood samples
were taken for the biochimic exam which mesured
twelve biochimic parameters. They where made
through photometry, with STAT FAX 1904 PLUS.

Methods
STAT FAX 1904 PLUS bichromatic photometer

Results and discussions
The oscillation limits are between normal
parameters for these species of animals, with
some differences which affects the alanin
aminotranferaze (ALAT) and the alkaline
phosfatase (AP).
8
Results and discussions
For batches number 2 and 3, the values of the
enzymes realize positive variations.
In the cases of the dogs from batch number 2, the
percentage differences () are positive for ALAT
(43,18), ASAT(65,43), GGT(64,98) but with a
positive variation of AP of only 8,36 . In
batch number 3 the values are more compact from
this point of view, respective a positive
variation in ALAT (43,25), ASAT (49,9),
GGT(52,89).
9
Results and discussions
The medium values of cholesterol in batch number
1, over cross physiological limits typical for
dogs. The values of creatinin, glucose and urea
are constant.
10
Results and discussions
Batch number 2 presents percentage difference of
the cholesterol, negative (-19,51) and lower
than the batch number 3 ( -46,27 ). În the case
of the creatinin, the values of the percentage
difference are positive respective in batch
number 2,(33,19) and (8,45) in batch number 3.
For the urea the percentage difference is
pozitive as much in batch 2 (48,13) as in batch
3 (21,63) .
The values of the percentage difference in case
of the glucose are presented like this in batch
2 the percentage difference is negative (-7,41)
and in batch 3 the percentage difference is
positive (15,18 ).
11
Results and discussions
The animal batches dont present significant
variations of Ca and P, which denotes that this
elements do not suffer pathological changes in
the aging process of dogs, positive or negative
variations evolvying only with different
systematic affections.
12
Results and discussions
The values of Ca in batch 2 (3,88) are positive,
in distinction with those in batch 3 (-5,12)
which are negative.
The values of P as much in batch 2 ( -1,02) as
in batch 3 (-18,88) are negative.
13
Results and discussions
There are important negative variations in case
of the total protein (-13,01), albumin (-6,17)
and globulin (-18,37) in batch 3. In case of
batch number 2 the variations are less
significant respective the positive variation to
total protein (2,38).
The Albumin (batch 2) does not suffer any
modification from the point of view of the
percentage difference, and the globulin have a
negative variation (-4,12).
14
Results and discussions
The report albumin - globulin presents positive
values, which are more evident in batch 3
(8,13), than in batch 2 (5,15).

Conclusions
  • 1. Aging represents a natural biologic phenomena,
which affects the living world in its assemble,
consisting in wearing processes at a cellular,
tissual and systemic level, which precede the
cells death, the tissues death and final the
bodys death. It is a process which affects the
    cells with intense metabolism .
  • 2. Older dogs may exhibit a variety of behavioral
changes, such as destructiveness, anxiety and
    phobias, repetitive or compulsive disorders,
night walking and increased vocalization and
aggression to more subtle signs such as decrease
in responsiveness to the owner or decreased
    activity

16
Conclusions
  • 3. In more advanced stage of aging , the clinic
image correlates with deteriorations of the
    biochimic and enzimatic sanguinic image,
    expressed through increased values of
    hepatospecific enzymes (ALAT,GGT,ASAT) which
    denotes hepatic disfunctions clinical manifested
    through langour,jaundice, sensitivity in
abdominal palpation. The high values of urea and
    creatinin correlates with renal insufficiency.
  • 4. The growing of AP, specially in batch 3, can
be bound with different states associated with
    hepatic and intestinal disorders.
  • 5. The more significant variations affect the
cholesterol, which records constant values higher
    than those considered normal.
  • 6. Aging is correlated with a high susceptibility
in hepatic, renal, cardiac diseases, as well as
    tumor affections.
