Objectives

• On the basis of inputs from presentations and
  discussions, the participants are asked
• a.   To provide recommendations on methods and
  tools for assessing technology needs
• b.   To provide recommendations on the types of
  assistance required to carry out technology
  needs assessments.

Process

• a. Appoint the group rapporteur. The rapporteur
  will prepare and report to the plenary during
  the plenary discussions.
• b. Discuss the guide questions below. In
  discussing the guide questions, take into
  account
• - Regional and country differences
• - Both adaptation and mitigation
  technologies
• - Concrete proposals/options for the
  SBSTA to consider.

Guide questions

• a.    Are the existing methodologies for needs
  assessments adequate? How can they be improved,
  e.g. adaptation?
• b.    What are the potential barriers in
  technology needs assessments and what specific
  actions can be undertaken to overcome these
  barriers?
• c.    What capacity-building and technical
  assistance needed to undertake needs assessments?
• d.    What possible follow-up activities can be
  pursued related to technology needs assessments?
