  • Substantial resources have been allocated to
    mitigation initiatives countrywide
  • E.g. 21 of KHADREP resources spent on mitigation
    this FY.
  • Many partners at local and national levels are
    implementing varied initiatives

    JAPR on the Mitigation of Socio-Economic Impact

Key constraints
  • Lack of clear national strategy and policies to
    guide the mitigation of socio-economic impact
  • Lack of coordination of current initiatives
  • Inadequate resources targeted to this areas

Emerging Issues
  • Strong coordination is required to ensure
    effectiveness of several socio-economic impact
    mitigation initiatives being undertaken by
    partners
  • Many partners are carrying out mitigation
    initiatives but they are not focused on a common
    goal initiatives are not guided by a national
    policy

Work Plan for 2004/05
  • Develop a clear policy for mitigation of social
    impact of HIV/AIDS
  • Put in place strong mechanisms to coordinate
    mitigation initiatives at all levels
  • Lobby strongly for the enactment of the HIV/AIDS
    prevention control bill
