  • The class lectures will be jointly with the MSc
    students
  • The course will
  • Introduce students to the role of maritime
    transport in international trade and to the
    specific tasks that face the executives of
    shipping companies and other organizations in the
    maritime industry.
  • Students will be able to
  • Describe ship types and measurement systems, as
    well as operational modes such as liner and bulk
    carrier trades
  • Define the basic cost elements of ship
    operations
  • Analyze the relationship between demand and
    supply for shipping services, and discuss basic
    principles of rate making
  • Analyze freight markets
  • Understand the new building market
  • Understand chartering practice and its contracts

  • Provide an understanding of commercial practices
    and the legislative and contractual framework of
    international shipping.

    and well as ship registration
  • understand a closing procedure i.e delivery of
    a vessel
  • understand voyage calculations and laytime
    statements
  • understand central issues of maritime law and
    insurance
  • understand hedging market freight derivatives
    and bunker hedging
  • understand ship accounting and valuation
