  • Group work
  • Bringing together half a dozen people who work
    in the same sort of fields but within different
    organisations, may be more effective than
    arranging a formal course.

    more effective
  • If influencing making contacts
  • If securing results knowing what to do
  • If volunteering developing ways to enable
    people to do so

  • Encourage the elders or deacons to be more active
    in the presbytery or union
  • Develop Sunday School work
  • Outreach to young parents
  • Fund raising

NOBODY CAN DO EVERYTHING
  • Responsibilities must be shared
  • This might mean changing procedures

KNOW THE INSTITUTION
  • An understanding of the institution, be it a
    large corporation or a small church, is essential
  • Talk and listen to all who are involved in the
    work
  • Be aware of other peoples motivation so as not
    to offend

KNOWING OURSELVES
  • What would I do in the face of conflict?
  • Try to avoid it?
  • Seek a compromise?
  • Give way to a stronger argument?
  • Insist on having your own way?
  • Try to get everybody to agree?

  • There is more to effective leadership than the
    skills and ability of the leader.
  • Followers, circumstances and historical
    influences all have their role.

  • Heroism is often the result of circumstances and
    opportunity
  • Most leaders never have the opportunity to be
    heroes
  • Their chief characteristics include hard work,
    wise decisions and good conduct.
