Proper Nouns
  • Proper Nouns are capitalized
  • Examples include Mozart, Paris, and Chicago

  • Concrete nouns are names of objects
  • Examples include rock, stool, pen

  • Nouns are singular if they describe individual
    things
  • Boat

Plural Nouns
  • Regular nouns form plurals by adding s or es to
    the singular form
  • Nouns that end in y preceded by a consonant
    change the y to i and add es
  • Some nouns ending in f or fe change the f to a v
  • Some nouns change a vowel sound (tooth, teeth),
    some use the same singular and plural form
    (sheep), and some have no rule (child, children)

Possessive Nouns
  • Add an apostrophe () and the letter s to all
    singular nouns. Ex. the mans coat
  • Add an apostrophe only to a plural noun that ends
    in s. Ex. the boys rackets
  • Add an apostrophe and an s to a plural noun that
    does not end in the letter s. Ex. a childrens
    book
