13Testing Accommodations
- Please review the document concerning
accommodations provided in the testing packet. - Every Test Administrator and Proctor must read
the New Test Accommodation Guidelines for
2006-2007 prior to administering the AIMS Test. - New accommodations titled Universal
Accommodations are now available. - Remember if a scribe is used, all answers must be
transcribed to a regular answer document.
14Who Receives Which Accommodation?
- Universal Accommodations are available to all
students. - Standard Accommodations are available to ELLs
,504s and Special Education students but each
group has specific accommodations check list in
guidelines. - Alternate Accommodations are available ONLY to
Special Education students with an IEP.
15Writing Field Test in Selected Schools
- AIMS DPA Writing Field
- Grades 3-8
- Give test on one day (Feb. 27)
- Approximate administration times
- - Gr. 3, 4, 5 two sessions, 1 hour each
- - Gr. 6, 7, 8 one session, two hours
- It is not a timed test, so students must be
given the opportunity to complete the
writing field test in one day -
16Science Field Test in Selected Schools
- Science Field Test
- Grades 4 8
- Give test on one day (April 17)
- There are 5 numbered forms so form code
must be bubbled. - Approximate administration times one
session of one hour. - It is not a timed test, so students must be
given the opportunity to complete the
science field test in one day. -
17Sign-In Sheet
- ALL Testing Sites will have a Sign-In Sheet
- (example in test packet).
- These sheets need to be secured by the Test
Coordinator. (ADE randomly reviews Sign-In
Sheets.) - Sign-In Sheets provide documentation
- of who was testing in the room as
- well as verification that students were
- provided the opportunity to test.
18Testing Issues
- When in doubt call Cindy Hurley 225-5418!
- Call Cindy to report any and all inappropriate
testing incidents. - Use the Testing Incident Report Form provided in
your packet and return to Cindy. - Inappropriate handling of incidents may result in
liability issues.
19Testing Issues - Continued
- When you follow proper testing procedures ADE
can assist us. - Only Cindy with permission from ADE can
invalidate an answer document. - Removing students who are disruptive does not
mean you do not allow them to finish in another
environment.
20AIMS Test Administration Procedures
21AIMS Testing Protocol
- The AIMS test is not timed.
- Approximate times represent the estimated time
necessary for the vast majority of students to
complete the test. - Arrangements must be made to allow students to
have as much time as is needed to finish the
test. - No AIMS testing session may carry over to the
next school day.
22Preparing to Test
- Please review the Test Coordinators Manual and
Test Administration Directions prior to training
Test Administrators, and Proctors. - Many important items are covered
- in the manuals that will not be discussed
today.
23AIMS Labels
- Student Bar Code Labels will contain ALL required
demographic information except for information
regarding accommodations. - Student Bar Code Labels are to be placed on the
front of the answer document. Do not use the
Master Label.
24AIMS Labels
- If a student has a label use it! Do not fill in
the back portion unless there is an error on the
label. - Some missing or incorrect demographic data in the
labels can be corrected for the test reports. - To do so, use the label and have school personnel
bubble the correct information in the lower half
of the back of the answer document after testing.
25DO NOT DO THIS!
- If a student does not have a bar code label, do
NOT write the information in place of a label.
26AIMS Student Demographic Data Grid
- For students without a bar code label, the grid
on the back must be completed by school
personnel. - The top half is to be completed before testing.
- The bottom half is to be completed after testing.

27 Private School or Home SchoolStudent
Demographic Information
- Fill in the top half of the back side of the AIMS
answer document and since there is no SAIS , put
in students phone number all 10 digits. - Mark box 6 (not enrolled) on bottom half of the
back side of the AIMS answer document.
28Test Security Test Materials
- Inventory of Test MaterialsTest Coordinators are
responsible for a complete inventory of all test
materials both immediately upon receipt of the
test materials and throughout the testing
process. - Secure Storage of Test MaterialsTest materials
must be kept in locked storage when
not in use and must be
returned daily to the custody of the
site test coordinator. - Return of Test MaterialsAll testing materials
are to be returned to TUSD testing
warehouse. Follow instructions for
return of materials (slides
46-49).
29AIMS Test Security Test Content
- Do not reproduce any test materials.Use
short/add window to order additional materials if
needed. - Do not preview, read, study, or examine the AIMS
DPA test.Only students who are participating in
testing may view the test. - Do not disclose any actual test items.Never
discuss any test item that has
not been publicly released by ADE.
30Test Security Agreement
- Breaches of test security are serious.
- Everyone who comes in contact with AIMS DPA and
TerraNova materials is responsible for
appropriate test security and is required to sign
a Test Security Agreement. - Agreements must be kept on file at school except
the principals agreement needs to be returned to
Cindy Hurley.
31Test Setting
- Seat students at desks or tables with sufficient
room between students. - Visual aids that may assist students with an
answer must be removed or covered up except for
the Six Traits for Writing. - Have an adequate supply of dictionaries,
thesauri, and pencils - ink pens may not be used
. - Note Dictionaries and thesauri may only be used
during the writing portion of AIMS DPA.
32During Testing
- Monitor Test Administrators - Correct
administration procedures- Correct room set
up- Active proctoring - Monitor Student Conduct- No cell phones or
electronic devices- No scratch paper on AIMS-
No talking or disruptive behavior - Maintain careful records of who tested
33After Testing
- Confirm completed answer document for every
tested student. - Confirm barcode label OR hand bubbled
demographics. - Confirm inventory counts of all tests.
- Package materials for return to district
testing warehouse correctly.
34- Contact Cindy Hurley, 225-5418, as soon as
possible for any of the following - 1. If a teacher makes a mistake in
- administering the test.
- 2. If student is caught cheating.
- 3. If a teacher is caught cheating.
- Remember test invalidations
- can only be done by Cindy Hurley.
35Receiving Test Materials
- Open all of the boxes immediately upon receipt
and verify the material amounts indicated on the
packing list (Box 1) are correct. - If you are substantially short, email or call
Cindy (225-5418) immediately and no later
than April 3 by noon. - If you need just a small amount, call Bert.
Bert (617-8187). -
- Then physically count the inventory and
call Bert with discrepancies.
36Pre-Coded AIMS Barcode Labels
- Only the Test Coordinator or Test Administrator
should place the barcode labels on the answer
documents. - The label with the barcode should be placed on
the front of the answer
document. Two barcode labels are provided for
your convenience. - If you place the wrong label on a student
answer document, obtain a new
answer document and utilize
the extra barcode
label provided. - Do NOT retain unused barcode labels.
- Pre-coded labels are valid for the
- immediate testing session only!

Pre-coded student barcode labels are to be placed
on the front of the student answer document in
the designated area. You must utilize only a
CTB-generated label with a barcode. Do not write
or mark in the designated barcode label space.

42Writing Accommodations
- For students using a word processor, tape
recorder, scribe, Braillewriter, or a large print
test book and answer document as an accommodation
(standard), their responses must be transcribed
into a standard AIMS DPA or TN answer document
for scoring purposes. - The test coordinator, test administrator,
proctor, or other designated school
personnel must transcribe
the responses exactly as
produced by the student without
changing spelling, punctuation, word choice,
or any other aspect of the student
responses. - After transcribing student responses into
the standard answer document, all
electronic versions must be deleted.

- March 8, 9, 12, and 13 for return of AIMS Writing
Field Test Gr. 3-8 - April 23-26 for return of AIMS DPA, TerraNova,
and Science Field test. - PLEASE CALL BERT (617-8187) TO SET UP A TIME SLOT
TO RETURN MATERIALS.
45Packaging Scorables and Non-Scorables
- Scorables
- Answer documents that are to be scored are
considered - scorables and need to be boxed and labeled
separately. - Do not mix any scorables with non-scorables may
result in lost tests and/or late-receipt scoring
fees. - Non-Scorables
- Test books and unused barcode-labels are
- considered non-scorable and should be boxed
- and labeled separately.
- Keep all unused or damaged answer documents
- grouped together and returned with the
- used answer document.
- NOTE Box test materials in the original boxes
- sent to you these must be used for return of
materials to CTB.
46Organizing Scorable Answer Documents
- Make sure barcodes are affixed correctly, are not
damaged, and there are no extraneous marks. - Separate used (scorable) answer documents from
other non-scorable materials. - Make sure all transcribing has been done
when necessary. - Check answer documents and test books to
ensure that answer documents have
not been left
inside test booklets. - Each set of test materials needs to be
returned in separate boxes
AIMS DPA and field
tests need to be in their own
labeled boxes.
47Need-to-Know Need-to-Remember
- Use of scratch paper for AIMS is a test
violation. - Students must use a No. 2 graphite pencil to mark
their answers answers written in
ink will not be scored. - Test coordinators administrators are responsible
for reading the test
administration directions thoroughly
No one told me that, can not be an
excuse used
if a test violation occurs. - Students who become ill and must leave during
the test
administration of any AIMS content area
are ineligible to continue
the test for that content
area or to make-up that testing session
(See
page 8 of Test Administration Directions).
48Still More Need-to-Know and
Need-to-Remember
- Students identified as Limited English Proficient
(LEP) or who have been identified
as Fluent English Proficient (FEP) for two or
fewer years are eligible for certain standard
accommodations as needed - Accommodations for English Learners include
- gt Use of a published translation
dictionary - throughout the test.
- gt Provide exact oral translation of test
- directions into students native
language - (no written translations allowed).
- gt Simplify language in directions in
- English only.
