Title: VEGIE PEOPLE PRAC
1VEGIE PEOPLE PRAC
2VEGE PEOPLE PRAC
AIM To construct a vegetable child by choosing
genes for eyes, arms, feet, hair, and gender from
Ma Onion and Pa Potato
3Table 1 Genetics of the Vegetable People
4Table 2 Ma and Pa have the following
Characteristics
5Answers
6Put Mas alleles on the top and Pas down the
side
Complete five (5) punnet squares for the
possible genotypes of the offspring of Ma and Pa
(eyes, arms, feet, hair and gender). Complete
the probability of each characteristic
7(No Transcript)
8METHOD Select a gene for each trait from Ma
and Pa (choose 1 gene from each envelope) Then
combine the gene pairs together to form genotype
and phenotype of your vegetable child (Table 3).
Table 3 The Genotype and Phenotype of my
Vegetable Child
9METHOD Use the appropriate materials (refer to
table 1) to construct and name your vegetable
child.
10METHOD Conduct a class survey to identify the
frequency of each trait within the class (Table
4).
11Table 4 Class totals for each characteristic
12Although many of the children produced by the
class had the same phenotypes, no two vegetable
children were EXACTLY the same. Explain why this
is so.
13In this experiment, there are 162 genetically
different vegetable people possible. Use the
results of this experiment to explain why there
are infinite variations possible in a species
that reproduces sexually, such as humans. 3
