- The program begins in Guatemala City, where
you will receive orientation and have various
meetings.

- In Guatemala City you will stay in a safe, clean
and modest guest house in the historic Zone 1.

5 Xela
- You will then move to the Highlands of Guatemala
for further orientation, one-on-one Spanish study
and your first home-stay.

- There are lots of things to do in and outside of
Xela, so take advantage of the opportunities!
10On the road again
- Traveling is an extensive part of the trip. So
pack light but also bring along a good book,
music or games to share on the road.

the intern, Guest-house Staff and some friendly
turtles in a safe, comfortable and clean guest
house. Most meals will be enjoyed here as well.

- You will learn about the social, economic and
political implications of Latin American
liberation theology. -
- Some classes will be held at the nearby National
University of El Salvador.

16Church Accompaniments
- As part of you course, you will be split up into
small groups for a weekend to participate in
and/or observe liberation theology in action
throughout El Salvador in various Christian Base
Communities.

17Rural Stays
- Suchitoto, Copapayo and El Sitio
- Visit El Centro Arte para La Paz and spend a
night in - Nueva Esperanza Community
Stay with families, meet with members of the
Agricultural Cooperative, youth group
Tour the coconut, cashew and sugar cane
plantations.
18Break!
- After the El Salvador portion ends, sometimes
fall/spring break will begin. Bring travel books
or ask the staff for ideas. Just let us know!

and the intern in the Center for Global Education

Case study of Nicaragua - Classes include diverse experiential activities
and the opportunity to listen to different
lecturers with different perspectives.

22Urban Homestay in Batahola community
- You have the option of staying with a Nicaraguan
family for one month. - The families live in a low income community and
are very actively involved in the communitys
cultural center.
23Rural Stay
- As part of your courses you will also travel to
the Miraflor Nature Reserve, in the northern part
of Nicaragua. - You will stay with poor rural families from El
Sontule community and will learn about.. - the history of the community and the New Dawn
womens cooperative - Organic coffee production, fair trade and
sustainable development practices. - .US- Nicaraguan relations
24FINAL PROJECTS
- As part of your courses you will be required to
carry out a research project that integrates
your learning throughout the semester. Examples
of creative projects include visual
presentations, short documentaries, zines, etc.
