The Sugar Act of 1764 was a tax put on Foreign
sugar and molasses.
Colonists used sugar to make rum, bake, and trade
with, so they didnt want to pay a tax on it.

This act also required colonists to pay for
quartering feeding soldiers horses in their
area. (Especially in Massachusetts because they
fought it the most. )
The colonist had to provide things like firewood,
bedding, candles, vinegar and salt.

This Act required stamps to be purchased then
places on newspapers, almanacs, pamphlets, legal
documents, dice and playing cards. (Way to prove
that the tax was paid)
Leaders from the The Stamp Act Congress drew
up a written protest and sent it to the king.
Stamp Act was repealed (canceled) in 1766

Colonists were going to have to start paying tax
for glass, lead, paint, paper and tea.
Planters and merchants signed the Non-Importation
Agreement. (People signed pledges against
drinking tea.)
Writs of Assistance were issued, giving British
right to search property
Tensions grew, causing the Boston Massacre.

British soldiers were taunted by American
colonists, British soldiers opened fire.
3 Americans died and 2 were wounded that
eventually died later, including Crispus Attucks.
This event gave Americans greater cause to fight
the British.

Parliament tried to help the British East India
Company by allowing them to sell tea directly to
the colonists bypassing colonial merchants.
Sons Daughters of Liberty organize tea boycotts
under the direction of Samuel Adams
More than 1million cups of tea were brewed
daily. The Boston Tea Party would change all

The colonist disguised themselves as Mohawk
Indians then boarded 3 British ships to throw 342
crates of tea into Boston Harbor.
The Colonist dumped tea into the Boston Harbor
because the king wanted to increase the taxes on
it.
The British Governor demanded that the colonists
pay for the lost tea.
