Summary of PIRATA Brazil Activities during 2006
  • 8S-30W SWE ATLAS buoy emergency recovery due to
    anchoring problems.
  • Engine failure of R/V ANTARES prior to the PIRATA
BR-IX backbone and SWE-II scheduled maintenance
    cruise in July 2006.
  • Emergency servicing arranged by DHN, with special
    funding from MCT.
  • PIRATA BR-IX and PIRATA BR SWE-II are now
underway. 3 ATLAS moored are being serviced.
  • PIRATA data collected, decoded, and made
available by INPE during September 2005-August
    2006.
  • PIRATA Laboratory at INPE/Natal Mechanical
    workshop civil constructions completed.
  • ASPSP Tide Gauge acquired being integrated with
INPEs automatic met station at CPTEC.

4
PIRATA BR-IX
  • Current PIRATA BR IX Mission dates are October
    23 to December 15.
  • CTD profiles at each degree of latitude along the
38W meridian and along the PIRATA SWE array
    between 34W-19S and 30W-08S.
  • ANTARES shall amostrate ADCP currents twice along
the 38W meridian line, as a way to enhance the
accuracy of currents measurements sampled by
    ANTARES ADCP.
  • There shall be one radiosonde launch per day
    during the time at sea.

    starts to drift.
  • Exchange of e-mails among PMEL-INPE-DHN takes
    place
  • Emergency recovery mission is setup between INPE
and DHN, with real-time buoy positioning info by
    PMEL.
  • June 28th, ATLAS buoy recovered by DHNs ship
    Amorim do Valle.
  • Buoy sensors electronic already shipped to
    PMEL.
