LEADER Networking objectivesin the Walloon
region

• Reinforce the skills of the Leader local actors
• Reinforce conditions of exchange and sharing of
  experience
• Development and reinforcement of partnerships
  between actors in neighbouring territories
• Reinforce Leaders visibility on the level of the
  rural territories
• Improve communications on the part of the LAGs
• Develop tools of analysis for the follow-up and
  evaluation of the GALs
• Encourage the timelessness of Leader results
• Encourage the rapprochement and/or integration of
  tools of the Walloon and European rural
  development
• Encourage/reinforce dialogue and consultation
  between the partners in the Leader programme
  with non-Leader partners
• Reinforce the contribution of the local actors
  through the Leader national and European
  network dimensions.

Tools of the Network support Unit

• Regular organisation of meetings, which are often
  thematic (InterLAG meetings and seminars)
• Publication of a liaison newsletter and Magazine
• Creation and monitoring of an Internet site
• Provision of a resources centre (SVP Leader)
• Creation of an original device to capitalisation
  upon good/best practices (Scientific committee
  associating academic partners and on-the-spot
  practitioners).

Ingredients for successful networking

• Regular surveying and evaluation of the needs and
  expectations of the LAGs (bottom-up approach)
• Quality of the human resources (skills,
  pluri-disciplinarity, transversality) made
  available to the network
• Permanent concern for the reinforcement of local,
  regional and European partnerships
• Fluid and rapid information circuits
• Active meeting schedule
• Opening up of the networks and levels of
  intervention
• Flexibility of intervention
• Rapidity and relevance of response
• Valuation of the contributions of each partner in
  the network.

Recorded results

• Accessing information, experience and tools
  useful in the day-to-day activities of a LAG, as
  well as in activation of the projects in
  progress, the search for partners and the
  identification of sources of regional, national
  and European financing
• Broadening LAG references and reinforcing their
  local credibility, creating and reinforcing their
  links outside the territory, overcoming localism
  and breaking down the isolation of the territory
  and actors of rural development
• Collectively elaborating and enriching the Leader
  procedure through collective research and
  capitalisation on Leader findings, as well as the
  dissemination of the method outside the scope of
  the beneficiaries of the Community Initiative
• Encouraging the integration of this concept of
  rural development into other regional development
  concepts
• Encouraging multiple levels of cooperation
  (territorial, thematic, etc.) via the
  establishment of strong links between actors,
  activities and territories.
