How do we make Egg Tempera!!

• Separating the yolk
• 1. It is desirable to use yolk without any
  white in it.
• 2. Break the egg and slowly pour the egg
  white into the garbage or container.
• 3. It is important not to break the yolk
  membrane at this point.
• 4, . Once the yolk has been separated gently
  place it on a paper towel and roll it around
  taking care not to break it.
• 5. Transferring the yolk to the flat of the
  palm we are ready to extract the contents. Using
  the thumb and index finger lift and hold the
  yolk sack over a clean glass. Puncture the skin
  at the bottom with a neat hole in order to
  minimize the chance of skin fragments getting
  into the glass. A knife or toothpick are ideal
  for this cut.
• Care in obtaining the purist yolk in this
  way will make significantly better paints and
  avoid trouble later. The yolk is now ready to use
  for paint making.

• Making Tempera Paint
• 1. Place a small amount of the pigment
  onto a palette, dish or bowl.
• 2. Add about an equal volume of the egg
  medium and mix well making sure there are no
  lumps of pigment. Some pigments require slightly
  more egg medium, some require less.
• 3. Add distilled water (usually less than a
  teaspoon per egg yolk), trial and error will
  dictate just how much water is required.
• If the paint contains too much yolk, the paint
  will look greasy and clumpy too much water makes
  it run. So makers of paint have to finely adjust
  the amount of water and yolk to achieve a
  consistent paint. As tempera dries, the artist
  will add more water to preserve the consistency
  and to balance the thickening of the yolk on
  contact with air.
