Title: ANIMAL GEOGRAPHY
1ANIMAL GEOGRAPHY
- Please open RB to page 8. Add additional notes
as needed throughout discussion. Remember that
active (verbal and nonverbal) participation is
required in order to receive maximum
participation points for the day!
2A. BIOSPHERE
- The Biosphere is the thin layer of earth where
all life is found. Roughly 10 miles wide. - The Biosphere is divided in Biomes
3B. BIOMES
- Biomes are parts of the earth that have a
consistent set of characteristics. - Biomes can be divided into Terrestrial Biomes and
Aquatic Biomes.
4Examples of Terrestrial Biomes
5Examples of Aquatic Biomes
6C. BIOMES ARE INFLUENCED BY TWO FACTORS.
- BIOTIC
- Living factors
- All the organisms found in that biome. (animals,
plants, and microorganisms)
- ABIOTIC
- Non-living factors
- Physical conditions of the biome. (climate,
rainfall, soil, minerals, wind, altitude, depth,
etc)
7D. INTERSPECIES RELATIONSHIPS
- A relationship between two different animal
species. - For example
- Shark and Remora Fish
8E. INTRASPECIES RELATIONSHIPS
- A relationship between two animals of the same
species. - For example
- Caring for young in some species.
9F. PHYSICAL ADAPTATIONS
- Physical characteristics that an animal has that
increases its survival. - For example
- Tusks on a elephant.
-
10G. BEHAVIORAL ADAPTATIONS
- Behaviors that an animal exhibits that increases
its survival. - For example
- Defending territory
- Hunting during the night.
11Think for a moment about our impact on the biome
and habitat in which we live. How are we
affecting our biome and habit right now? Please
check out the objectives and homework to see what
you have to do tonight!!! Leave all assignments
attached in your RB unless otherwise noted by
myself!!
