• Domestication of cloudberry was the ultimate
  goal
• Studies on cloudberry included
• breeding and cultivation, planting machinery
  development, pollination, restoration of used
  peatlands
• Studies also with other northern berries
• Vaccinium, Sorbus, Rubus, Amalanchier
• Analysis of antioxidant capacity and phenolic
  content of the berries

Objectives
The main objective was the advancement of
cultivation and use of northern berries,
particularly cloudberry while taking into
consideration the sustainable use of nature and
natural heritage

• Breeding and selection of best cloudberry
  varieties
• Development of mass propagation technique for
  cloudberry and propagation of plantlets for the
  project
• Adaptation of machinery for soil tilling and
  cloudberry planting
• Large-scale cultivation of cloudberry and farmer
  training in Finland and Norway
• Cloudberry pest and disease monitoring

• A promising downy mildew resistant arctic bramble
  clone was selected and its propagation was
  started for further studies
• Control of downy mildew in experimental
  conditions was promising
• Method for quantitative analysis of downy mildew
  in arctic bramble was developed

  Amalanchier and trailing Rubus were shown to be
  winter-hardy
• Several new clones or cultivars can be provided

  significant variation in the stability of the

  compounds to retard and/or alleviate the
  onset/progression of atherosclerosis
• The protective antioxidant behaviour of Rubus
  species was corroborated by feeding fruit fly
