Fun Facts about D. latum

• Adult worm can reach a length of 10 meters or
  more and can have up to 3000 proglottids.
• Scolex is elongate and spoon shaped with two long
  sucking grooves on the ventral surface.
• The proglottids are wider than they are long with
  rosette shaped uterus.
• Eggs are oval and operculated.
• Also known as Jewish Housewives Disease

Symptoms and Treatment

• Usually asymptomatic or may cause nonspecific
  abdominal complaints.
• If attached in proximal jejunum can lead to
  vitamin B12 deficiency.
• Treatment with praziquantel.
