Background
  • MTAS 2007
  • On 29 February 2008, a new immigration system was
    launched
  • Based upon a points based system
  • Combines 80 different routes now into 5 tiers
  • Points are awarded according to skill, age,
    experience, aptitude and demand for skills
  • Allowing the UK to respond flexibly to demands in
    the labour market
  • Fair, transparent system and objective system,
    realistic expectations for migrants, reduce
    failed applications

  • Tier 1 allows highly skilled migrants to apply
    for permission to work or train in the UK without
    a firm job offer, restricted access to training
    posts
  • Tier 2 employer led system, to fill places
    unable to be filled by UK or EU workers, Resident
    Labour Market Test, can be training or
    non-training, 3 years then renewal, 5 years
    residency
  • Tier 5 authorised exchange of Temporary
    Workers,
  • The MTI enables doctors from developing health
    systems to develop UK experience and train under
    a temporary basis

    Royal College has list of candidates willing to
    come to UK for limited period, CVs forwarded,

  • Can operate on oncall rotas SHO/SpR level
  • Not to be seen as Staff Grades
  • Regular sponsorship of posts can occur, creating
    an International Fellowship Scheme, candidates
    sourced by College regularly

  • MRCOG Part 1

  • The RCoA facilitates GMC registration for
    participants on MTI training programmes
  • Job posts must offer
  • The same training and assessment opportunities as
    other trainees in the same grade
  • Progress reports sent to the College every 6
    months

Why use International Recruitment
  • The opportunity to source good quality candidates
    from abroad to fill speciality vacancies
  • The UK is able to support and develop the
    training of overseas doctors
  • Support the UKs international development
    objectives and foster exchange programs
  • A maximum length of 24 months, with the
    expectation that the doctor returns to his home
    country
  • Posts are not expected to contribute to CCST,
    workforce planning
  • However, the trainee is given high quality
    training recognised by The Royal Colleges and
    there home country
