What we do.

• Litter
• We have got 11 pieces of hand-held litter picker
  equipment.
• We have a litter picking rota.
• We have lunch-hall patrols.
• We have bought new bins in the shapes of pencils
  and animals.

• Waste minimisation
• We have class recycling boxes.
• Each wing has a big recycling bin.
• We have posters and competitions to raise
  awareness of waste.
• We have our school Eco Code.

What we do.

• Water
• ERC gave all Mearns pupils their own water
  bottles.
• We have water fountains around the school.
• Pupils are allowed to drink water in class.
• We do water use-age surveys.

• Health and well-being
• We all get 2 hours a week of physical activity.
• We do brain gym daily.
• Nursery P5 get free fruit daily.
• We are a health promoting school.

What we do.

• Energy
• We do a Lights off door shut, surveys.
• We keep a note of the energy meter readings
• We turn our lights off when we leave a room.
• All equipment is fully shut down and never left
  on stand by.

• Transport
• We had a walking bus which is starting up again
  soon.
• We have bike racks.

• School Grounds
• We are getting a school garden.
• We have an eco code to try and stop people
  dropping litter.
• We are getting wormeries for our school garden.
• We have made a link with business

• Biodiversity
• Through class studies we learn about other
  cultures.
• We learn about other countries and their
  pollution solutions!
• We have a connection with a French school.
• We have a Malawi project and we support different
  charities.

Mearns Eco Aims for 2007 - 2008

• Waste minimisation waste audit
• Transport New walking bus and cycle train.
• School Grounds designs by pupils to be used to
  develop 2 parts of garden.
• Biodiversity continue work with pupil council
  on Fairtrade tuckshop.
