  • Obstacle Course

About the Game Our Obstacle Course allows our
young athletes to practice many of the skills
they have learnt in PE, and particularly
gymnastics, this year. Balancing, climbing,
jumping and rolling skills are all put to good
use over our challenging course.
  • Rules
  • There are 4 groups and 4 Obstacle Courses.

About the Game During Terms 1 and 2 the
children have been slowly developing their skills
in the worlds favourite game. Dribbling,
stopping, changing direction, finding space and
sending the ball to a partner will all be
demonstrated.
  • Rules
  • One ball for each player.
  • On a signal the players have 45 seconds to score
as many points as possible by dribbling through
the coned gates without touching them.
  • Try to beat your score with further attempts.
  • Variations
  • Stop ball on signal.
  • Swap ball with a passing player on signal.
  • Turn and move into space on signal.

  • The Sprint

About the Game All children like to test their
speed and race their friends. Its also important
however to learn to run straight and respond to
different starting signals. Take your
marks
  • Rules
  • In groups of 6, runners race down the track,
staying in lane, to break the finish tape.
  • Runners can then return slowly down the outside
of the track to line up and have another turn.
  • Take your marks, set, go !
  • After all runners have had a turn, change the
start position on front, on back, backwards etc.
  • All runners waiting for their heat must be behind
    the waiting line.

  • Hockey

About the Game During Year 1 and 2 the children
will start to handle sports equipment with more
control and accuracy. Controlling a ball using
the correct grip on a hockey stick is fun to do
and beautiful to watch. The under-arm throw is
also an important tool and the change of activity
forces the players to think about their grip on
the stick each time they pick it up.
  • Rules
  • Players are shown the thumbs down grip and can
pick up a stick and start to dribble through the
    gates.
  • After 5 gates the players can dribble towards a
basket and do an under-arm throw to the basket
    from behind the throwing line.
  • The ball and stick is then retrieved and the game
re-started. Remember to grip the stick correctly
    after each throw.

  • Basketball

About the Game The thrill of the size 3 ball
dropping through the basketball hoop is second to
none in year 1 and 2 PE. Add to this the ever
developing skill of tracking and controlling a
bouncing ball and you have a great game to play
at home or at school.
  • Rules
  • Every player has a ball and on the signal can
dribble around the court stopping at baskets to
    shoot.
  • If another player is already at a particular
basket players must wait behind cones before
    approaching basket to shoot.
  • Players cannot shoot at the same basket twice in
    a row.
  • Play for 1 minute and have as many goes as
possible in order to beat your best score.
