Description of the IPSI RAS(www.ipsi.smr.ru)/
SSAU
  • The Image Processing Systems Institute was
    originated in the interior of Samara State
    Aerospace University (SSAU) in the middle of 70s.
    The IPSI consists of two departments including
    four laboratories and an experimental design
    bureau. Activities of the IPSI RAS is mainly
    focused on solving fundamental and applied
    problems of diffractive microoptics,
    nanophotonics, image processing, and image
    recognition.
  • Books Laser beam mode selection by computer
    generated holograms (CRC Press, Boca Raton,
    1994) Iterative methods for diffractive optical
    elements computation (Taylor Francis, London,
    1997) Methods for computer design of diffractive
    optical elements (Wiley Sons, New York, 2002)
  • Our Institute publishes the Journal of Computer
    Optics (in Russian)

2. Research activities Diffractive Microoptics
and Nanophotonics
  • I. Design and fabrication of Diffractive Optical
    Elements (DOE)
  • -focusers (DOEs to focus laser beams in a desired
    area),
  • -mode filters or modans (for formation and
    selection of transverse laser beam modes).
  • Design of photonic crystals and photonic
    quasicrystals
  • - development of numerical methods for designing
    photonic crystals and photonic quasicrystals,
  • - development of technologies for fabrication
    photonic crystals and photonic quasicrystals.
  • III. Synthesis of Optical Metamaterials
  • -antireflecting structures
  • -development of methods for controlling the
    effective refractive index.

  • Design and fabrication of photonic crystals and
    photonic quasicrystals (2-photon polymerization
    and holographic lithography)
  • Design of antireflecting structures and optical
    metamaterials for infrared range (diamond films,

  • Design of microoptics with subwavelength feature
    sizes
