3General model of the information search process
- Conceptualizing information need
- Expressing that need in terms understandable to
the system - Cross checking of the conceptualized need vs. the
outputs from the system - If the match isnt satisfactory quit, or revise
the search terms or methods

This was the accepted model for information
retrieval. In more recent years, we moved toward
to the realization that information retrieval
spans more than just inputs and outputs.

- Bates model is only one of the information
seeking models out there - Satisficing is a term coined by Herbert Simon,
combination of satisfying and suffice - We believe that people routinely satisfice during
their information search process
