33O Sacred Head
O sacred head, now wounded, With grief and shame
weighed down
318
34Now scornfully surrounded,With thorns, Thine
only crown
318
35How art Thou pale with anguish,With sore abuse
and scornHow does that visage languish,Which
once was bright as morn!
318
36When I Survey the Wondrous Cross
When I survey the wondrous cross On which the
Prince of glory died,
315
37My richest gain I count but lossAnd pour
contempt on all my pride.
315
38See, from His head,His hands, His feet,Sorrow
and loveflow mingled down
315
39Did eer such loveand sorrow meet,Or thorns
composeso rich a crown?

41The Old Rugged Cross
On a hill far away, stood an old rugged
cross, The emblem of suffering and shame
313
42And I love that old crosswhere the dearest and
bestFor a world of lostsinners was slain.
313
43So Ill cherish the old rugged cross,Till my
trophies at last I lay down
313
44I will cling to the old rugged cross, and
exchange it some day for a crown.
313
45Ten Thousand Angels
They bound the hands of Jesus in the garden
where He prayed They led Him thru the streets
in shame.

sin They said, Crucify Him Hes to blame.
349
47He could have calledten thousand angelsTo
destroy the world and set Him free.
349
48He could have called,ten thousand angels,But He
died alonefor you and me.

Him none to drink. Then the sinful work of man
was done,

72Nailed to the Cross
There was one who was willing to die in my
stead, That a soul so unworthy might live
361
73And the path to the crossHe was willing to
tread,All the sins of my life to forgive.
74They are nailed to the cross! They are nailed
to the cross!O how much He was willing to bear!
75With what anguish and loss, Jesus went to the
cross! But He carried my sins with Him there.
76Alive
77The Glory of the Cross
What wisdom once devised the plan where all our
sin and pride was placed up on the perfect lamb
who suffer'd, bled and died.
78The wisdom of a sov'reign God whose greatness
will be shown. When those who crucified Your Son
rejoice around Your throne.
79And, oh the glory of the cross, That You would
send Your Son for us. I'd gladly count my life as
loss, that I might come to know the glory of, the
glory of the cross.
80What righteousness was there reveal'd that sets
the guilty free That justifies ungodly man and
calls the filthy clean.
81A righteousness that proves to all Your justice
has been met, and holy wrath is satisfied through
one atoning death.
82And, oh the glory of the cross, That You would
send Your Son for us. I'd gladly count my life as
loss that I might come to know the glory of, the
glory of the cross.
83And, oh the glory of the cross, That You would
send Your Son for us. I'd gladly count my life as
loss that I might come to know the glory of, the
glory of the cross.
84In the cross, in the cross,be my glory
ever.Til my rapturd soulshall find, rest
beyond the river.
85And, oh the glory of the cross, That You would
send Your Son for us. I'd gladly count my life as
loss that I might come to know the glory of, the
glory of the cross.
86And, oh the glory of the cross, That You would
send Your Son for us. I'd gladly count my life as
loss that I might come to know the glory of, the
glory of the cross.
87What language shall I borrowTo thank Thee,
dearest Friend,For this Thy dying sorrow,Thy
pity without end?
318
88O make me Thine forever,And, should I fainting
be,Lord, let me never, neverOutlive my love to
Thee.
