Who are the tutors?
  • Writing Center tutors are faculty members and

How do I make an appointment?
  • Call the Writing Center at 970-351-2056
  • Visit the Writing Center in Ross Hall, Room 1230
  • Schedule your appointment online by visiting the
    Writing Center Website http//www.unco.edu/englis
    h/wcenter/
  • logging into the scheduling system, and
    selecting a time slot.
  • Clients are allowed 90 minutes of tutoring per
    week, arranged in half-hour or one hour
    increments. Clients are discouraged from
    scheduling 90 minutes at one appointment.

How soon should I make an appointment?
  • You can make an appointment at any stage of the
    writing process, but you shouldnt wait any
    longer than two days before the assignment due
    date, four days if your appointment is online.
  • During mid-term week and the week before finals,
    the Writing Center is often booked. Review your
    schedule and make an appointment at least a week
    before these times.
  • The Writing Center is closed during finals week.

What if I cant keep My appointment or am running
late?
  • To cancel your appointment, call the Writing
    Center at 970-351-2056.
  • If your appointment is online, send an email to
    crystal.brothe_at_unco.edu to cancel the
    appointment.
  • Clients who miss 3 appointments and fail to
    cancel will not be able to use the Writing Center
    for the remainder of the semester.
  • If you will be late, please call.
  • If you are 10 minutes late, your appointment will
    be cancelled.

Does the Writing Center offer Online tutoring?
  • Yes! To make an appointment online
  • Login to the scheduling program and book your
    appointment with either Sonja Scullion or Crystal
    Brothe.
  • Email your work as an attachment (saved in
    Microsoft Word 1997-2003 or RTF format) by the
    beginning of the scheduled appointment time to
    your tutor
  • sonja.scullion_at_unco.edu
  • crystal.brothe_at_unco.edu
  • The tutor will use your appointment time to
    respond to your work and email you the comments.
    Turnaround time is 24-48 hours from the time of
    the appointment.

What should I bring to my appointment?
  • Bring your assignment guidelines, if available
  • Bring your draft, if you have one
  • Bring your specific concerns about your writing

Will tutors help edit my work?
  • No!
  • Our goal is to help you become a better writer.
  • We do not evaluate your writing for a
    gradethats your teachers job!
  • We do not edit your work by pointing out mistakes
    and fixing them for you.
  • Instead, we help you to analyze your writing and
    provide proofreading strategies you can use in
    the future.

Does the writing center work with clients whose
first language is not English?
  • Yes!
  • We have many tutors who are skilled at working
    with those writing in English as a second (or
    third, or fourth!) language.
