Title: Protestant Redeemer Church of Bogen
1Protestant Redeemer Church of Bogen
2- The Protestant community of Bogen
- The Bogen area has traditionally been Catholic.
Towards the end of Word War 2, however,
Protestant refugees arrived from the eastern
provinces of Germany. During the last few decades
the community has grown even more with immigrants
from the former Soviet Union. With the growing of
the Protestant community in Bogen , the Church of
St. Florian became too small for the Catolic and
Protestant divine services. So, in 1958 the
Redeemer Church was built for the Protestants as
their own church.
3Fritz König, shaped the controversial cross for
the Redeemer Church. It shows Jesus with a big
cloak. However, the Cross was criticized by a lot
of people as too modern, because its without
the traditional cross beams and the
suffering figure as which Jesus is normally
shown.
Fritz König also created the sculpture The
Sphere, which decorated the World Trade Center
in New York. It survived, althougth damaged, the
terrorist attacts of 9/11. The Sphere is now in
Battery Park, New York.
4- For Protestants decoration in churches is less
important. They put more emphasis on preaching
from the pulpit.
5Font of Redeemer Church If we compare it with
the font of Windberg, we see that its style is
much simpler.
6- Thats the meeting room for teenagers. It also
shows that the Protestants are an open community,
welcoming young people, just as Mrs Rudolf, the
sexton, welcomed us when we visited the church.
